I originally had a half carat diamond in here that sat in it much lower. I wanted to get a bigger one to fill in the gaps around and went with a carat but when I got the diamond back I was not expecting it to sit higher up. I can see there’s gaps on the side so I’m wondering if I should ask them to reset it? Or if it just doesn’t fit the setting ?

If you don't like it ask them to fix it. These are some other diamond settings

I personally think it looks beautiful. Obviously it’s bothering you though and it sounds like you would be happier if it sat lower. I don’t think it would hurt to see if it can be adjusted.

Thank you!! I do also think it’s beautiful I just can’t help wondering if it could be a little lower so you’re right I’ll just ask the jeweler 😬😊

Definitely talk to the jeweler about it. They set them up higher to bring out the shine And look bigger, but there should be room for adjustment. Mine is intentionally set as low as it could sit because I knew I would snag it on everything (and I still do!)

It would irk me too I think. I’d have them redo it.

Definitely ask the jeweler. They may have had to set it higher to make the larger diamond fit, as they possible had to build up the prongs a little since the original stone was half the size. The jeweler should be able to explain why they did what they did and what other options you may have.

I think because you wanted a full carat the ring is going to require stronger prongs. The ring is beautiful, but the more you mess with it, the more delicate it becomes.

From what I learned from my jeweler when getting my engagement ring, apparently a lot of girls like their diamonds set higher because it makes them look bigger. Personally, I wanted mine as low set as possible so that it wouldn’t get in the way with my daily activities. I ended up having to have one custom-made low profile (so most of the diamond is hidden in the setting). So, it should definitely be possible to lower the diamond down into your setting.

I use to be a jeweler, and from the pictures, it doesn’t look like there is much room if any to make the stone go lower. The setting you have can fit a smaller diamond lower. You would probably need a different setting with a larger opening for your larger diamond.

The setting is made for a smaller stone, so it makes sense it doesn’t sit right. I’d talk to the jeweler - seems like it’d be easy to bump on things/get caught.

Hi! Not sure if you have spoke to your jeweler about this yet or not, so hoping this isn’t a redundant reply Smiley smile Something to note is that diamonds can be rated within the same carat weight but have different dimensions ie: the top of the diamond can be wider while the depth of the stone is more shallow and vice versa. Your stone could possibly be a little deeper meaning they can only set it so low before the “point” of the diamond is affected. I tried to see in your pictures where the point was in the crown but wasn’t really able to. Anyways, that may be an answer they give you, as well as the crown needing to be that way to accommodate the size of your stone.
