Was your hair and makeup trial worth it?

Ingrid, on July 9, 2018 at 3:05 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 22
My HMU artist charges $100 for the trial. For those of you who did the trial, did you feel like it was worth it? Did your HMU artist charge for the trial? I’m leaning towards doing it because I don’t want to be stressed about it the day of the wedding since I’d have never seen it before.

I haven't had my trial yet, but I can't imagine not doing one before the big day! I think $100 is worth being able to see the finished product/tweak anything you don't like/would like changed before your wedding day.

I did both a Hair and a makeup trial. $96 for makeup and $80 for hair. It was worth it to me especially because I never wear makeup I was somewhat shocked with how I looked. After I got used to my look I LOVED it but I think I would've freaked if it was my wedding day. I'm glad I got my hair done but I don't know that it was necessary. My wedding hair stylist is the same woman that has done my hair for years.

I would say do it just to lessen some of the stress!! And you get extra pampering Smiley smile

I don’t remember exactly how much mine was but it was absolutely over $100. Which I thought was a little pricey but definitely worth it for some peace of mind on the day of. I’ve heard hair / makeup nightmare stories so I think it’s safest to do the trail and see how the hair and makeup last thought the day!

I haven't done it yet, but I never thought about not doing it. I'll feel much better knowing what it's going to look like and being able to tweak it or change it if I need to.

I definitely think it was worth it. Neither the hair or your make up inspo pics will look the same on you as it does on the model. The products will be slightly different, your hair will not be the exact same length/texture/thickness, you skin will not be the same color etc. So it will helpful to see if that hair style or make up style even looks good on you or if you even like it once its on.

I was so glad I did both my hair and make up trial. I don't wear a lot of makeup so it was good for me to see what it looked like on, how long it actually lasted ETC. Plus by seeing it in advance I was able to talk to the artist about making some tweaks and not having to take up time the day of to redo it if I hated it or to have to stress about going through my wedding day not looking like myself. Same with my hair trial. The updo I picked was actually really difficult to replicate with how long and thick my hair was so after we saw it we agreed to keep the part of the style we liked and that worked and to do a second trial and fix what did it.

Basically TLSmiley laughR - Yes you should do it - if only so you know for 100% fact that the inspo you are looking at is actually something you like on you and not just on a model/picture and so you don't have to worry about fitting in time to redo something the day of the wedding. Work all your kinks out ahead of time.

SO worth it. I actually did a trial before I booked one girl (thank goodness) and ended up hating it. She had great reviews & I liked her pictures but my hair didn't stay curled until the end of the appointment even and the makeup left something to be desired. I did another (I planned on doing 3-4 total) and LOVED my hair & makeup. The woman was amazing and I booked her on the spot. I plan on doing another after I buy my dress & veil, closer to the wedding, so I'm confident I'll love my hair and makeup. So total, I'll spend $300 on trials.

I have separate people doing my hair and make up. My make up artist includes the trail in her cost. She charges over $200. My hairdresser is charging me $45, which is half of what my day of will cost. She’s straight up told me it will not be a perfect version, but just something for her and I to get a visual. I was disappointed in this. But after talking to a couple people, I will do it.

I was back and forth on having a trial but was so happy that I did it. I had my hair and makeup trial done the day of my last dress fitting. It helped ease my nerves being able to see everything put together.

It's absolutely worth it! It is so worth it that even though I used my HMUA for my 1st wedding and for other professional pics over the years, I still wanted a trial for this wedding because as another PP said, the inspiration pics will look different in reality based on your own skin and hair. The trial is to see how you like the look and if there is anything you would tweak after wearing the hair style and makeup all day. My HMUA charges $250 for a trial for hair and makeup.

100% worth it. Mine was $300 AND I flew from So Cal to San Francisco for the day just to get it done (the wedding is in SF). Thanks to the trial, I found out that I was a shiny greasy mess with regular foundation (the makeup was totally sliding off my nose, and was coming off on anything that touched my face) so I'm going to do airbrush for the wedding. If I hadn't had my trial, I'd never have known, and all that would've happened at the wedding! Plus, now she knows what she's dealing with hair-wise, so there won't be any surprises day-of.

I spent $130 on my hair and makeup. It was worth it to me, just the peace of mind knowing I have an artist who knows how to work with my face and short hair

Mine charged $100 for a makeup trial... her work to me didn't justify the price. Her products were all drug store brands. I had better products at home than what she used.

I’m doing my hair trial the day of my fitting so I can see what I will look like and see if it all meshes well together. If you can do that and set it up like that, then you’ll have an idea of how everything will go together and what you may want to tweak

Mine is scheduled for Friday, and is 125 for makeup, and 135 for hair. Plus 20% gratuity each. That being said, I’ve been competing and modeling, using the same inspiration pic for 3 years, and each HMUA interpreta the picture differently in some way. It’s good to know how the one that you picked is going to interpret your look, and if you see eye to eye.
