Wash hair the morning of wedding?

I know it’s been asked before. I have oily wavy/straight long hair and typically wash it once a day (I know it sounds bad but every person I’ve ever had work with my hair has said it is healthy and that me doing that isn’t hurting it). I know it’s been asked before. I have oily wavy/straight long hair and typically wash it once a day (I know it sounds bad but every person I’ve ever had work with my hair has said it is healthy and that me doing that isn’t hurting it). I take pride in my hair and treat it well. My stylist told me not to wash it the day of, but I’m afraid it will be too oily by the end of the night if I don’t wash it the morning of the wedding. The wedding isn’t until 6pm, and I’ll probably be waking up at 9am. Getting my hair styled around 1:30-2pm or so. What should I do? I’m leaning more towards washing it the morning of, especially since when I wake up it typically is a mess since I toss and turn a lot. I’m conflicted though.

You know your hair best! If you think you should wash it, just do it. Those “don’t wash your hair day-of” rules are for the average person but everyone is different Smiley smile I know in general you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day either but mine gets so greasy and itchy if I don’t 😖 trust yourself! I’d definitely wash it as early in the morning as possible though

I wouldn’t wash it. I have fine thin hair that gets oily easy. I use dry shampoo and it works wonders. Dirty hair olds styles better. Your HMUA will also be able to add powders that will absorb any oils. I didn’t wash my hair the morning of my wedding. At 5:30 when it started my hair didn’t look greasy and at the end of the evening it didn’t look greasy. I think you will have a better style result if you don’t wash it.

I have the same problem and my stylist told me the same thing. I washed it the night before and dried it really good and then slept on it. It was a bit of a mess in the morning but it held up all day and didn’t look dirty at all. I would say to listen to your stylist if that’s what she told you.

The theory of ‘dirty hair holds better’ was great in the 90s. We now have product available to ‘dirty’ our hair to make it hold. Dry shampoo and texture spray will make the difference. Wash your hair. Your stylist should have the available products to make it work.

My hairstylist explicitly told me do not wash hair the day of. She said any good hairstylist will have tons of texturing products and not to worry about it.

It definitely depends on what you're doing. If you're doing an updo, then definitely do not wash it the morning of. You shouldn't be worried about it being oily because they will use product anyways. If you're going for a more natural down look then that might change. Could you do a trial run of your hair to help decide?

This is how I feel. A little heat activated, super light spray on very clean hair styles well, better than dirty hair. So those who ordinarily wash their hair 1-2 times a day, know what feels best for them.

Clean hair doesn’t hold curls or styling as well. But if your hair is on the thinner side or very straight and you weren’t planning on an updo or lots of curls, washing is prolly ok.

Is it possible to do a trial run? Not necessarily go all out and do the exact same style you're doing for your wedding but something close? See if it holds up all day/night?

Wash it the day before and before bed once dried use some dry shampoo. That way in the morning, the dry shampoo already did it's job of absorbing any oils, and your hair should be refreshed without needing to be washed. Clean enough for your big day but "dirty" enough to hold your wedding style.

I would wash it. It’s easy to make your hair dirty with products for styling

I usually have the same issue with my hair. My stylist for the day of told me to wash my hair the night before and put a volumizing mousse in it while its wet. I just bought a mousse and Im going to try it a few times before the day of to see how my hair does with it. One trick I've found that works well is if I know I won't have time to wash my hair in the morning, I put my dry shampoo in my hair before I go to bed that night. It seems to do a much better job of controlling that greasy look compared to if I just put it in in the morning. If it still looks a little greasy when I wake up I might spray a little more in just to touch on that. Might be worth trying.

You typically don't wash your hair day-of for updos (they hold better when your hair has some natural oil in it and isn't perfectly clean and slick). If you are having your hair down and it normally gets oily roots, I'd be tempted to wash it the morning of your wedding. If you are used to washing it every day you'll probably notice when you don't and it will be a distraction on your big day.

I usually wash my hair every other day but I also exercise every day and on hotter days or when I'm doing a harder workout I need to wash it more. It's much easier to add product to hair to give it texture than to try to remove oil (although dry shampoo is a bit of a miracle). For updos though, having unwashed hair will actually mean they need to use less product because your hair will naturally be more grippy. I'd talk to your hairstylist but in the end do what is going to make you the least panicky.

Between the dry shampoo and the hairspray from the styling, I don't think people will know if it's dirty

My stylist told me not to wash my hair - then I had my trial. He said go ahead and wash it the morning of, because it was GROSS when he did the trial. I washed it that morning. When we got to the salon for our 9 am appointment, my stylist had the shampoo lady wash it again - for the relaxing scalp massage, which was amazing. He put tons of product in, and it held, in an updo, most of the night (and the parts that fell were from the bottom). It held a cathedral length veil during the ceremony at 6 pm. I had to wash it to get the top taken out lol.

All of this to say: see if you can do a trial with washing your hair the day before. Your stylist may change their mind or may stick with it.

I would say if your stylist recommended not to wash your hair, then don't. They can wash it at the salon if need be. Are you getting a hair trial done? They can tell you then what would be best. Either way, they can wash your hair if need be, or "dirty" it up if you do wash it.

I would ask your stylist. Mine is having me do it the day before. She said she had all her brides do that.
