Washington Beach Wedding

Linda, on September 28, 2016 at 7:48 PM Posted in Washington Planning 0 11

My fiance and I have always wanted a beach wedding. We want to get married on or very close to the beach with beach access if possible as well as having a sandy beach not rocks. We are getting married in June of 2018. We live in about 30 miles south of Bellingham but would like to stay within 2 hour drive at most for the venue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Tacoma so you probably aren't too far from me...one thing I'll say is since you live in Washington, you know the weather at the end of June. It'll most likely be cold, windy, and rainy. If you are ok with that I'll tell you that sunnyside beach in steilacoom (between Lakewood and Tacoma) is white sand, not Rocky like most beaches here.

Eta: Owens beach in Tacoma is pretty, and you would also have the scenery of five mile as well as the possibility of having a covered area to hold ceremony.

I agree with Jaslyn, June is a risky month with weather here, I would have a back up plan in case of rain. That being said, Alki is one of the most scenic beach areas, you get to look back at the Seattle skyline! Another great option would be Golden Gardens Park in north Seattle.

What about Semiahmoo Resort? I went to a nice wedding there last summer.

Hmmm within 2 hours of Bham makes it more difficult. What about somewhere in the San Juans? There are a lot of sandy beaches on the coast but the weather is even more hit or miss there.

ETA: Carkeek Park in Seattle. Not sure if you're allowed to have a full on wedding but you could probably do something small.

The parks and rec page shows all of the beaches (along with other parks). That might be a website that is helpful in finding a location.

The only Sandy beaches I can think of are on the coast like ocean shores.

Oh! Redondo in federal way has Sandy beaches but not much for a venue except for Sally's.

Specifically, I live in Anacortes. Which is in the San Juan Islands. But all of the places around here are rocky and not what I am looking for. I am looking for the coast type feel. If it does decide to rain that is ok as I am looking for possible venues with both indoor and outdoor spaces. Also Fiance sort of likes the idea of a big event tent so if it rains that would be okay.

I second Semiahmoo. There is not a whole lot of inclusive type venues near the beaches up in your neck of the woods. You could check out the state park in Birch Bay, or maybe somewhere in Blaine? The time of year you are looking at is prime tourist season up there so the beaches are bound to be busy. There are some beach-front properties up there in Birch Bay that get rented out and have "private" beaches. you could look into that as well. The further south you go, the more rocky the beaches tend to be (as you likely know). There is a place about an hour south of you (close to Marysville if I remember right) that has sandy beaches and an amazing view. I will have to look it up and get back to you.

You may have better luck with sand at a lake. Is Silver Lake near Mt. Baker sand? They have a lodge, and I just did a beautiful ceremony in the woods there. Everyone walked to the lodge after the ceremony for the reception.

    Lake Whatcom

    Big Lake

    Lake Samish

Does Guemes have any sand beaches? Guests could rent out homes via VRBO or at the resort.
