water only... how to prepare and get rid of caffeine withdrawal?!

FutureMrsNoel, on December 29, 2013 at 7:09 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 24

I am in the process of cutting out all drinks and sticking with water only! I did this once before and got terrible headaches, and felt blah. I dont drink a lot of pop, but juices so I guess its more sugar. I already switched to stevia raw sugar and lowered sweet intake. How can I prepare, and keep my body from the urge of wanting these items? I know it takes time for the body to adjust, I just dont wanna feel like crap. Not really looking to lose weight, just wanna be healthier!

Caffeine headaches are brutal. There are two approaches: slowly decrease your intake by doing half caf OR just go cold turkey and take aspirin or tylenol for the headaches. They're brutal but they last maybe 2-3 days. I need to do the same thing because if I don't have caffeine by 10am I get a pounding headache.

I would cut back gradually on the caffeine and sugar rather than going cold turkey. It seemed to help me.

My biggest thing is coffee! I have to have the yummy flavors, whipped toppings, caramel all the horribly bad for you but must have things lol. Guess those will be mad different if I decide to cheat

Feel free to connect with me for more information on this. But I will give you the short version.

1 year, 1 month, and 3 days ago I took my last sip of diet coke - my previous poison of choice. The only caffeine I consume now is chocolate and excedrine migraine for headaches. Never drank coffee.

I used to drink five a day. I cut down one at a time until I didn't have any. Drink about 2/3-3/4 of a bottle of water before each meal. This is great for eating less and metabolism anyway. But, you won't need a coke with your meal because you will be less thirsty. Don't go cold turkey. Days 3 and 12 were the absolute worst without caffeine. I still want a diet coke with spicy food and with popcorn, but I resist. I drink the equivalent of 6-8 bottles of water a day. 8 bottles is a gallon.

OH! And drink your water from a straw. The thought of this at first was terrible to me, but I won't drink much any other way. The straw makes the process faster and thus you can suck down more water in the day. Also, for me, it kind of makes it a game. "How fast can I drink this water before my food is ready?"

So just drink a little less everyday, and increase the water intake each day. I think I can do that! Ive been drinkinh crystal light to get my "juice taste". All I know is im 25 and in feel horrible.

I ALWAYS use straws, just because my daughter does lol never thought of it that way though

Yep. Like when I decided to make the change, I went down to four and stayed there until I was ready to go down to three.

Crystal light has artificial sugar in it, which is the same crap chemicals in diet coke. I would proceed with caution on that. Just because it's zero calories and no sugar doesn't mean it's healthy. Sorry to be so preachy but I just have done a ton of research on this. If you want your juice taste, I would suggest eating the actual fruit that your juice comes from. That still has "sugar" but it's natural and is fructose rather than the white stuff that juices like orange juice are filled with.

I don't think there is any way to prepare, you just gotta suck it up and deal with the horrible withdrawal for 2-3 days and then you feel so much better!

I had to give up caffeine over the summer because I was on medicine that made me jittery and the combination was making me FREAK OUT, I was so anxious all the time! So the caffeine had to go and it was awful for those first few days. But I've never gone back and now I don't get those mid-afternoon sluggish feelings!

I've never liked soda but my mom stopped drinking it three years ago and lost 20 pounds. That's the only thing she changed in her diet. She switched to tea, which helped with the headaches.

Instead of crystal light maybe try to brew some celestial seasonings herbal teas and make it iced tea? Mix some stevia in with that for your juice fix?

I personally LOVE carbonation. I kicked caffeine about 12 years ago, so I don't crave it at all anymore. I replaced it with gatorade and recently stopped drinking juices, too.

But I love carbonation. The fizz is my weakness. I avoided caffeinated sodas, but loved stuff like Fanta, Squirt and Sprite, because it was citrust and fizzy.

I have replaced all of that with Seltzer (Perrier, Perregrino, any other sparkling water I can get my hands on) and usually squirt just a touch of lemon juice in it for som flavor when I want the citrus flavor. I drink SO MUCH of this and it's calorie free.

Now I don't like drinking anything else. I had a Sprite at a luncheon the other week and it was like drinking syrup. So disgusting.

You really just need to find a healthy alternative to replace it with.

How about green tea? It's less caffeine but still has some, which could help you gradually. Plus it's decent for you and gives you something warm and yummy to drink in the mornings!

I used to get super bad caffeine headaches if I didn't drink pop within an hour or so of waking up. When I gave up pop, I would take ibuprofen or Tylenol as soon as I got up and that would prevent headaches. Switching to tea also works. It has caffeine but not the sugar so it's an easier way to wean yourself off pop.

I've never like soda, but love coffee. My family drinks tons of infused water. Lemon w/cucumber, ginger w/ chia seeds, and mint w/lime are the top three.
