Waterbeads for centerpieces

Mrs. Del Grosso, on August 17, 2012 at 9:24 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

Has anyone used waterbeads for their centerpieces or any other type of decoration? I was originally suppose to have water in the bowls that I'm using with my center pieces but because of timing issues I can't so I will be using waterbeads. Does anyone know how long these take to soak up the water? I was thinking about doing them the night before but I'm unsure. How long do they last in the container you buy them in before they go bad?

Yeah, I have a few michael's stores around me. I heard that they expand, I guess I can do a sample one before I purchase a bunch of them. That way I can figure out how many I need!

I used the crystals and it took about 4 hours for them to expand fully.

I went to a wedding last summer where they had the water beads in bowls as part of the centerpieces, it was truly beautiful!

I would buy them not already soaked, tons cheaper then the ones that are already in water, its kinda like buying a prepared meal, it costs more when it's so easy to do, the night before should be fine, there are also different sizes of beads

The package should say how long it takes for that brand....

E-favor mart (I have ordered from them, fast service!) is having a sale right now on them.

This is the exact bowl I will be using for my centerpiece (not what's in it though) Do you think one of those containers will be enough or only need half of the container?

The ones you soak yourself will probably fill 2 or 3 of those, depending on the size of the beads, you will spend a ton of money on the presoaked ones and for what you get its worth it to do it yourself

Okay, well I plan on making a trip to hobby lobby for the beads (for a sample one) and some other things I have to pick up!

The beads can be soaked days before. They hold the water pretty good.

One tiny pack (dry), if I remember right when I got some for a bamboo plant, made about 4 quarts of beads. So a little goes a LONG way. Just read the directions/and how much it makes, it should be on the package. We are using some for our centerpieces too!

Water beads are getting more and more popular as centerpiece decor. Most wedding planners and those who go for DIY centerpiece opt to use water beads as they are cheap and very much flexible on what can be done with them. It only takes around 3 hours to see how big it is. You also have the option to choose between round and square and the best thing is that they are so affordable. You can water them at night and you won't have to worry that they would dry up for the next day. -dainty
