Waterproof Gopro recommendations

Gen, on February 14, 2019 at 12:25 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
Debating getting a GoPro that can go underwater for our honeymoon, we recently decided to go to the Bahamas and i feel like it would be so neat to have a GoPro for when we go snorkeling! Plus I think we are going to try to leave our phones in the hotel room most of the time to try to be present with each other, but I’d love to have something to get photos/videos of our trip.

Anyone have any recommendations for a waterproof GoPro that takes good photos as well as videos? That isn’t too terribly expensive?

Oh yeah I was just kind of assuming a GoPro would be the best option but I’m open to other cameras as well!

Here is a site with info specifically on the GoPro waterproof cameras. Each on can dive a certain depth before you need additional accessories.

So many of the GoPro models (check the site for specifics) are waterproof to a certain depth, and then if you go further they need a case.

The YI 4K Action and Sports Camera is a really good budget alternative to the GoPro at about $100. And there are many other decent alternatives you can find on Amazon, but it's all about what you value. There's obviously more support for any GoPro issues than a third party camera manufactured in China, BUT the third party cameras still have the same features as the Gopro so it's all about the risk you want to take.

If you are comfortable buying used, it's something to consider. Some older models are better than newer models. Like the GoPro Hero 5 is better than the Hero (2018), because the Hero 5 was a flagship back in its day whereas the Hero is supposed to be the "entry" level camera.

I've been doing a lot of extensive research on this, as you might be able to tell haha.

    Hi!!
I have actually owned a few GoPros. Currently I use the GoPro Hero5. Now the thing will past GoPro models is that they come with a waterproof casing that you attach to the camera.
What I really enjoy about the GoPro hero5 is that there is no need for a waterproof attachment. The camera itself is build waterproof. I’ve taken it under water plenty of times.

All gopros take great pictures & videos. I have a lot of videos & pictures I can show you if you’d like to take a look.

Also you can buy GoPros from just about anywhere... Best Buy, Amazon, Target, Walmart, even guitar center has them.
I would suggest buying it from Costco or a store that has lots of accessories that come with the purchase of the camera.

This is great info, thank you! What accessories do you have/recommend for the Hero 5?

I recommend getting a 3 way arm or monopod. Something that lets you extend the GoPro for group shots or getting closer footage of fishes or something under water.
GoPro sells the arm but it can be expensive. If you’re afraid of losing the camera in the water, you can get a floater attachment. But I’m pretty clumsy and have never needed it. Other than that anything else is based on preference. Amazon sells accessories in bundles for pretty cheap. That way you can get a feel of what accessories you really like using for your trips. That’s what I did. Just keep in mind that they are cheaper quality as well.
Here’s one bundle you can check out:

Also I have a the karma grip, which is a stabilizer for the GoPro. (I have shaky hands so I needed this) my FH bought it for me. It’s great, but it isn’t waterproof :/
I also have head, bike, and car mounts. But I don’t really use those.
