Wax Seal on Invitations

Meredith, on October 24, 2011 at 12:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

So this weekend FH and I were walking around the village this weekend and we saw the item in this picture. We were wondering if any of you had ever used (thought of using) a wax seal on your envelopes. I loved this idea as soon as I saw it, but then was reading the documentation and it said that the automatic parts of the post office can sometimes mess with the seal.

As an aside, FH was so cute when we were talking about this. The first thing he said was "I bet your WeddingWire Brides could help us!!"

I really like the idea! You could seal the inner envelopes with the wax seal. Most people throw away the outer envelope anyway so the effect would be lost there.

I attempted wax seals on about 3 invites, but they weren't turning out as nice as I had hoped. And remember, they will also add weight which will probably add postage.

Like Cavan said, use it on the inner envelope.

Also, if you are a budget bride, know that this (inner envelopes and seals) adds to the weight and bulk of the invite, so your stamps will most likely cost more.

We hadn't thought about doing Inner & Outer Envelopes before. We got everything through VistaPrint and had the Envelopes with our return information and everything on it already. I did realize though that they sent us blank envelopes though so I guess we could try more than one envelope.

I think I might do one and mail it, but I don't want to buy the wax and seal if I'm not going to use it Smiley sad

My cousin did this for her invitations on the outer envelope. A few of them did get messed up but the majority of them made it to their destination unharmed. And like everyone has already said, it does add to the cost of postage.

Also they do have wax seals that are pre-made to make the process easier. Kind of like stickers. This is however more expensive.

We're using wax seals. Here are a few threads about sealing wax with some good tips:

Also there are a lot of different kinds of seal waxes now. Some are a lot better then others. I hate the ones at the craft stores honestly. They are heavy and just do not have a good texture or weight.

One of my brides tried this and most of them fell off before they arrived to the guest. I wouldn't waste the money unless you are boxing your invites for mail. You can order some nice labels/seals with your names or a monogram on them for less, and it serves the same purpose.
