Waxing! Is it worth it?!

Fwbride, on November 5, 2018 at 4:30 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 26
So I still have a ways before my wedding next year, but I have been freaking out about the honeymoon pampering! Everybody says to get waxed these days because it’s a smoother result and it last longer, so you don’t have to pull out the razor half way through your honeymoon. I want to be as sexy as I can be for my hubby, but at what cost?! Is the pain really that bad for a Brazilian or waxing in general? Drop your thoughts below!!

I've tried 2 times now and I hated both experiences, to me the pain isn't worth the outcome and (maybe TMI) it really doesn't take that long to just shave. Just my opinion! I know you are supposed to get used to the pain over time but I really did not enjoy it, not sure if I'm extra sensitive or what.

I've tried soft wax & hard wax. For me, hard wax was WAY easier. The "appeal" to soft wax is it doesn't pull as hard and it's less painful but it takes way longer. I literally wanted to die, I'd rather have more pain for shorter than less pain (but still pain) for longer. I think I'll wax under my arms, and possibly arms & legs. But I'll stay away from Brazilian. I'm saving for laser hair removal, which is also less painful than waxing (to me).

Worth it if you have dark hair. If you can survive getting your eyebrows waxed you'll be good to go. Fingers crossed you will have an experienced waxer that will talk to you the whole time and it will be over before you know it!! I would recommend doing a trial run with it though because some people skin is too sensitive that they end up having a terrible rash. Hope this helps you make a decision!

If I shave my legs in the morning, it already starts growing back by late afternoon 🙄 I literally have to wax because shaving doesn’t even last an entire day for me lol. I get my legs waxed professionally once a month in the summer and like once every 6 weeks in the winter. And I do touchups at home around the 2/3 week point. It definitely hurts, but to me it isn’t THAT bad. Maybe because I’m used to it (I’ve been doing this since I was like 15) but it’s so worth it to not have to worry about it for a couple weeks at a time.

Everyone is different though, different people can/can’t tolerate different types of pain. My best friend has a tattoo on her ribcage, and another one literally along her spine, and she barely flinched at that... but she cannot tolerate the pain of waxing lol. But like I said, waxing isn't that bad to me, yet I cringe at the very idea of tattoo needle pain. You can't really trust anyone else's perception of pain, so I'd say it’s definitely worth a try! I wouldn’t jump right into a bikini wax yet lol. See how you react just to legs or something first

You should look into sugaring instead of waxing! I’m getting a Brazilian tomorrow with suagring instead of wax. I can let you know how it goes!

I've got dark, thick hair (everywhere) and I've gotten a couple Brazilians in the past and honestly didn't think that they hurt all that much and it did last longer than shaving. I mean no it wasn't pain free but it doesn't last too long. If you have one near you, I would recommend going to a European Wax Center. They use hard wax and I've been as pleased as you can be with my experiences there. I plan on starting brazilian waxing soon to prepare for the honeymoon and I'll probably do my arm pits too. I don't know if its worth it to do my legs.

My aesthetician made me promise not to EVER use hard wax on your bikini area and I'm passing this on to you. It can rip off skin and be super painful. If you proceed, do yourself a favor and find a specialist who uses soft wax. My aesthetician became my confidant/good friend and every session felt like a great sesh of girl talk to decompress.

I did Brazilian waxes for over year until I moved away. The first time is the WORST. This is because when you shave, you probably have more than one hair coming out of one follicle and they grow thicker roots as a defense mechanism. You'll then need a follow-up session in probably only 1-2 weeks to get the remaining deeper roots. After that, it's not really painful at all. I barely noticed it.

Your hair will grow back baby soft and fewer hairs/follicle. It will also take 3-4 weeks for the hair to start growing back. However, this is ONLY if you frequently get Brazilians. You'll also get fewer ingrown hairs, but you'll need to exfoliate the area to prevent the pores from becoming clogged (like you do with shaving).

IMO, it's not worth it unless you'd like a lifestyle change. That said, I loved mine and would gladly do it again if I could find another aesthetician that I love.

    Good luck!

Hard wax is for sure the way to go. Once you go a couple of times, your body gets use to it. half way through my Brazilians I don't even feel it anymore. There are always going to be places that sting but it truly is worth it. I started going every 4 weeks and now I am up to every 6 weeks. There is no stubble either. It grows back much softer. I really recommend.

Yes, it’s worth it. I’ve been doing Brazilians for years. When I first started (and i started with bikini and worked my way up to full Brazilian) I would psych myself up - like yes it’s gonna hurt but it’s worth it!

Take Advil an hour before you go. I do think soft wax is better. As others have said - you get used to it and it doesn’t hurt as much. And it literally hurts for like a half second and then it’s fine.

Things to consider for a first timer: 1) Hard wax is way better than Soft wax, so find out what the salon offers before you do it... 2) I get the worst reaction if I shave my bikini line (like literally to the point where pubes hanging out would look less disquieting than the inflamed puss filled bumps I get.), so for me i prefer waxing 3) Waxing does hurt 4) My hair grows back super quick, so I have to get mine done every 3 weeks. 5) The first time is the worst 6) Take IB profen1-2 hours before and drink something with sugar (if you can) immediately after [your body does go into a little shock from it] 7) I LOVE IT 8) Its expensive! 9) De it well in advanced of you wedding (the first time) and do at least 2 sessions (meaning do it once let it grow out and do the second), and decide after the 2nd because it is soooo much easier when your hair is less dense! 10) You aren't supposed to shower in HOT water for 24 hours, so always shower before!

Note: your body does get used to it, and when your hair is less dense it hurts way less!!! The first time your hair will be its most dense, but will thing out after a few times!

100% worth it! It’s only painful the first time. I’ve been getting Brazilians for almost a decade now. Your hairs will be less coarse each time and you’ll also be able to go longer between sessions.

I’ve been waxed many times and it is the worst. I cried the first time and it’s so expensive for it just to grow back a few weeks later. Then you have to let it grow out so they can grip the hair. I will never have another wax. I ended up getting laser hair removal and it was so much better. Still painful and expensive but only takes five min at a time and permanent.

I’ve been getting full Brazilians for years. You get use to it. The more you go, the less it hurts. I will never go back to shaving. The hair grows back slower and slower as well. Less hair = less ouchy.

Depending in my schedule, I go every 3-6 weeks. I definitely recommend starting soon if you want to. It will give your skin time to adjust and the hair will grow back even slower.

Also, I do not recommend waxing. I hate it. It really irritated my skin. For me, sugaring is the way to go. It pulls the hair out in the direction of growth rather than against it. This leads to less ingrown hairs. Also, waxing pulls the top layer of your skin off, sugaring is more gental and more affective.

Foe your first time, try taking some ibuprofen an hour to 30min beforehand. And if you like drinking, have a glass of wine. It will help. The first time is the worst because you don’t know what to expect. After that, it’s not so bad. I’m in and out in 15min and I usually have a great conversation with my girl while it’s happening.

Sugaring is way better than waxing. I recommend this to everyone. A professional model friend turned me on to it. I trusted her since she gets all hair removed. Sugaring is even gental enough to remove baby hairs from your face. I will never go back to waxing.

I prefer SUGARING to waxing or shaving. It’s so much less painful.

I totally think it’s worth it! I used to say all the time that i would NEVER wax but once I went a couple of times i got hooked and have been going for 2 years now. I am able to get about 5-6 weeks in between each session. Shaving is less painful but if you have a busy schedule it can become quite time consuming with how often you have to shave.

Check with the salon to see if they can offer a discount for the wedding. I checked with mine and they gave me 20% off for each of my bridesmaids and myself and allowed us to block off times so we can kind of make it like a little pamper party

    Hi Noelle,

Hoping in on this discussion to say IT'S SO WORTH IT. I've been waxing since I was 18 and it was the best decision I ever made! I hardly get any hair now or ingrowns Smiley smile

Since I've been doing it for so long and have been to so many different salons for it, I've experienced many different types of wax. I personally think hard wax hurts less and has been more effective in hair removal for me.

There are some tricks that you can do beforehand to ease the pain - I've heard that taking Advil can help! I also like to play games on my phone to distract me from what's happening. It can be an uncomfortable experience (pain wise) but, in my personal opinon, the results are so worth it!
