Ways to ask about registry?

Molly, on November 12, 2019 at 10:41 PM Posted in Registry 0 9
What is the best way to put in your wedding website / registry that you don’t need anything because we have everything we already need (been living together) but if you feel the need to give, honeymoon help is appreciated. I saw this one but I need more ideas:

Please do not feel obligated to buy us a gift. All that we are expecting is you. However, if you would like to give something, a contribution toward our honeymoon would be greatly appreciated by us. Thank you!

The easiest option, which also happens to be the one with the least risk of offending anyone is to simply not register. If people ask you directly, you can simply state that you are not registered anywhere. People understand that cash is a good gift. If there is no registry, they typically get the hint.

Yea I don’t have a registry but under registry tab on my website I just had that last comment I put written. My wedding is just intimate 20 people so I know they’ll all ask if I have one so that’s why I noted something. But I’m not sure how to note it!

This is the verbiage we’re using on our wedding website in the FAQ section: “ We are very grateful to already have everything we need for our home together. Your presence on our special day is all the "presents" we need.” People already know that cash is a good gift Smiley smile

I saw some people put an enclosed card in their invitation suite that said “Honeymoon Fund” instead of registry and put details under that said “You can find our honeymoon fund at our wedding website www. Etc”

My mom was adamant that we do not ask for money for our honeymoon directly, so this was the compromise:

As we begin our lives together, we are especially grateful for support from our friends and family. We recognize how lucky we are and have decided to plan an unforgettable honeymoon to XXX to celebrate the beginning of our married life together. The biggest gift of all is your presence on our Big Day. Thank you for your love, and we can’t wait to celebrate the start of our adventure together with you!

I'd probably put that on your FAQ page and remove the registry page from your website entirely, if possible. I might tweak the wording a little bit to something along the lines of the following:

"We are fortunate to have everything we need for our home already and have not created a registry. All that matters to us is having you present for our special day, but if you would still prefer to bring a gift, a contribution towards our honeymoon would be greatly appreciated."

Most people know that cash is the best gift for a wedding, but in some circles there are definitely people who will buy a random gift if there's no registry so it really can't hurt to include some language like this on your website!
