We were suppose to get married back in 2017 on Halloween, as it was our anniversary. But due to some other big plans, we decided to postpone our wedding. We decided that we would have it the first year Halloween fell on a weekend, which was 2020. The ideas wrote themselves, a Celtic/Viking Handfasting, paying homage to both our ancestors, as well as our own beliefs. A 1920's styled Halloween party for our reception. Then covid hit. We absolutely refused to postpone our wedding any further, so we went ahead with our plans.
Because everyone one could only be here for the weekend, we didn't have enough time to practice the procession, so that ended up being a mess. There was a mess up with the music, so a lot of the songs we wanted to play (which we had to hunt down, as we only played jazz and swing music from the 1920's era) didn't get to play. The catering fell through at the last minute, so my dad just ended up ordering pizza. And a friend of ours ended up causing enough drama for everyone to notice.
But I am so happy with the whole day. The month long shut down ended up giving me ample time to plan everything. My little sister, who was only eight when my husband and I started dating, and has ALWAYS been supportive of us, served as our High Priestess. Even if everyone couldn't make it, most of the people we really wanted there, were there. For those who couldn't, we streamed the ceremony for them. The venue we found, we only found because of covid, as they were having a deal to help stay in business right after the month long shut down in FL. The owners were amazing, and ended up became our friends through the whole process. The design coordinator captured the 1920's themed Halloween party for the reception perfectly. My MOH created a whole murder mystery game, to keep everyone entertained. And, best of all, I got married to my best friend under the Blue Moon!
Our big day was a perfect example of who both my fiance and I are. It was a crazy day, with a lot of hiccups, but we both are weird and spontaneous, and able to roll with the punches. It ended up being a beautiful day, and amazing night, filled with life, laughter, and, at the base of it all, love.
