We won a free honeymoon!

Kira, on November 11, 2016 at 11:54 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

Hey WW Peeps!

So, I entered a sweepstakes on facebook for a free all expenses paid honeymoon to D.R. The thing is, while FH and I are excited, I am a bit cynical and want to be sure this isn't some type of scam. The sweepstakes was hosted by Dinner 4 two by Kitchen Charm, and while I've done my research, I'd like to get some opinions on what you all think. Has anyone ever heard of them? We don't have to sit through any seminars or anything, and I have asked as many questions that came to mind, but is there anything I should be aware of? Any and all help is welcome.

They will not leave me alone. Keep saying I have gifts to claim. Someone on a FB group I'm in had them be extremely rude to her. Just be cautious.

They had a booth at a bridal show I went to. I signed up to go to a demonstration of kitchen products. At the end of 90 minutes they were supposed to gift you with a 2 night 3 day vacation. I didn't end up going to the seminar myself, but I heard the vacation is real, you pay airfare and of course they want you to buy extra days. It can't hurt to check it out!

Thanks ladies. I think I've been pretty reasonable with my questions, and so far the procedure sounds fairly normal. I'm just usually cautious. Seems like there are no strings attached.

@Gretchen, in this case, the airfare, hotel stay, candlelight dinner and couples massage are included.

I've only heard negative reviews (rude/kept telling them to get their prize they had to buy something) from my bride friends however, you should be careful.

Those "you won xyz" promos from bridal shows usually end up being a scam/comes with strings attached or they're wayyyyyyy more trouble than they're worth. Just know when to turn and walk away.

Do your research, I heard you have to go to a 2 hour presentation to buy their products, which is optional and you still have to pay for airline and taxes.

    Thanks everyone!

@La Grosera, what would be a red flag that would make you walk away?

@Becky R., they never mentioned anything like that. The only thing they've mentioned was filing a 1099 on my taxes since the trip is over $600 and that means it has to be counted as income. Not sure if that varies by state, but my Mom had to do that when she won on a scratcher as well, so that didn't really seem odd to me.

If I was asked to pay for anything or if I had to sit through a sales pitch would make me get up and walk out. I've heard that those sales pitches that they make you sit through to claim your prize are usually really hard sales pitches and I haven't heard anything about the "quality" of the trips, but I have a hard time believing someone would pay thousands of dollars to send me on a nice vacation just for listening to a sales pitch. I assume that they'll have you staying in a Motel 6 that's 5 miles away from the beach.

Here's a link to the video advertising the trip.

They can make anything look pretty in a video (I'm on mobile so I couldn't watch it). I skipped the part where you said it's from Dinner 4 Two. People have posted about them here quite a bit and it's never anything good. Every post I've seen about them says that claiming the prize requires you sitting through some kind of 2 hour long presentation.

It is 100% a scam. You're "free honeymoon" does not include a booking fee OR your flights. You also have to buy their $2000 pots in order to get your "free honeymoon". We learnt the hard way.. if it sounds too good to be true.. IT IS.

One red flag I always have is if they tell you to pay to get your prize, run and run quickly. And of course read reviews.

Where is DR? You should have some info/documents by now. I'd be very, very careful.

Never heard of them but I would be cautious about it. Typically heavily discounted or "free" trips are too good to be true.
