Wear the dress twice?

Ashlie, on August 3, 2020 at 7:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
So, my wedding is a COVID casualty 😭😭 our venue cancelled us Friday, out of nowhere, 4.5 weeks away from our wedding. We are still doing a ceremony on the original date with a very small amount of people, and a bigger ceremony and reception in March. Should I wear my dress twice? Get a new one? I’m so torn. I absolutely LOVE my dress. It has special meaning, wasn’t inexpensive 🤣 but.... now what???? I’m so torn. I’m heartbroken about everything... and trying to be positive. It’s so hard.

I'm currently trying to decide this myself! I bought a $84 white dress from Lulu's and paid for it to be hemmed, it's cute but now I'm thinking I should wear my actual dress that I spent some good money on. Except, it will likely get very dirty and cost even more to get it cleaned before the "second" ceremony/celebration. A lot of people have always wanted an excuse to wear the dress twice, but I kinda wanted to save it for the bigger celebration! That wasn't much help, sorry. Lol i'm torn myself.

Girl, wear it twice - you invested in it LOL
Maybe you can alter it a different style somehow for the bigger ceremony

Or just go online shopping for dresses under $100 like Lulu’s Smiley winking

I'm so so so sorry to hear about this. If it were me, I would save the dream dress for your reception and get a different dress that suits your small intimate ceremony to wear. But its entirely up to you!

I would totally wear the dress twice! Unless you were hoping to keep it a surprise for your bigger ceremony and reception, in which case, I would find something different for your smaller ceremony. I wish I had the opportunity to wear my dress twice!

Do you have the extra money to buy another dress and possibly have it altered? If so it wouldn't be a bad idea looking into buying another dress. But I think if you absolutely love the dress then why not wear it twice.

I am planning to wear my dress twice, for my minimony and big wedding later on. You spend so much money on a dress, plus more for any alterations, so might as well maximize the time you get out of it! I am considering changing out of my gown into a more casual dress between the minimony and the dinner after, to avoid it getting too dirty.

Wear the dress twice! How many times do you hear about brides only getting to wear their dress once and wishing they could have worn it longer or had another occasion to wear it? We're sort of lucky in that way. I'm wearing mine twice. I spent a good amount of money on it and I love it! I want to marry my fiance in that dress and it's so nice that I want to wear it twice! Lol. My man is the only one I care about surprising the dress with, so as long as I get to still reveal it by walking down any kind of aisle to him, I'm wearing it!

Oh that’s such a good way to put that! Legit, brought tears to my eyes! (I am super emotional right now! As we all are, or have been at some point, with this whole mess I’m sure!) and you’re absolutely right. Thank you!!!

It’s so hard! I know. I’ve picked out another dress, probably Lilly Pulitzer, as I’m such a Lilly girl. But I go back and forth so much

If you love it, wear it twice!

For people wearing their dress twice, how are you handling cleaning and storing it (or not) between the two dates?

Sorry to hear that. It’s one thing to make the decision to postpone... it’s another thing when you get canceled without a say in the decision. If it were me, I’d get a new, cute and simpler dress for the small ceremony and wear my main dress in March. For 2 events that are 6-months apart, I’d want a special dress for each one.

Definitely wear it twice. I’ve talked to someone who postponed their large wedding and had a small ceremony this year and she said her biggest regret is not wearing her dress

I would definitely wear it twice unless you just want another dress.

So sorry to hear that the venue canceled, but glad you are able to still go forward with your ceremony

My wedding was canceled 2 weeks before. we ended up getting married in our living room (this was April) and I bought a dress off Lulu's for that ceremony. I will wear my real wedding dress when we do our celebration next year.
