Wear the Engagement Ring or just the Band?

My fiancé and I are traveling to Italy for honeymoon a couple days after the wedding. We’re going to Venice, Florence, Rome, Pompeii and Capri. I’ve read a lot about pickpocketers, especially in Naples. Has anyone had problems when traveling to any of these areas? The engagement ring is quite expensive and I don’t know if it would be a target for someone to try and steal. Thoughts?

I can promise you that you’ll hear the words “selfie stick?” at least 500 times anywhere you go in this country. They’ll shove stuff in your face or just hand it to you, but do NOT take anything. Nothing is free.
Oh also, make sure that whatever shoes you’re wearing are comfortable. Trust me, the beauty is NOT worth the pain on the uneven streets of Rome and Venice.

I was just in Rome and Venice last month. I did wear my engagement ring but didn't feel like I was a target. I don't think you have to worry about anyone trying to steal your ring. I would be more worried about losing it than getting it stolen. I carried a cross body purse and that prevented anyone from trying to pickpocket me. The locals were friendly but I also am quite street savvy and know how to put on my resting wench face when I think it's necessary - such as someone hawking counterfeit goods.

And I second Natalie on the uneven streets of Venice and Rome - especially the Roman Forum! Comfortable supportive shoes are a must.

Don't take it! Lock it up in a bank deposit box before you go to protect it from home intruders as well. Pickpocketing and robbery are very much alive and thriving businesses in Italy.

It makes you look like a juicy target in a tourist area. You're right to worry. The ring would attracted a lot of bad attention. You would risk things like your wallet or other valuables stolen

Here are cheap options to fix it

Cheap option a: Go to Walmart and get yourself a cheap look a like set. It's $28 for peace of mind.

Cheap option b: wear a silicone work band. They are cheap and often worn by pregnant women or workers who can't wear metal at work. They are $5 I think.

Cheap option c: just wear the band
