Wearing your engagement ring on your wedding day?

Karley, on October 4, 2014 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Do most people wear their engagement ring on their wedding day? Or should the ring finger be open for the wedding band? What did you do, or are you planning to do?

I put my engagement ring on my right hand for the ceremony. This allowed my DH to put the wedding band on my finger first as is traditional. He then later privately moved my ering back to my left hand.

I plan on putting my e-ring on my right hand for the ceremony. I think that's fairly traditional, but not sure.

Glad you posted this, Karley! It would have never occurred to me except maybe at the rehearsal itself. Looks like the other ladies have it figured out Smiley smile I am considering a band that coordinates with FH's band, rather than one that matches my e ring, so I may move the e ring to my right hand permanently anyway once we are married.

I'm planning on wearing my engagement ring on my right hand, and then after the ceremony put it back on my left with my wedding band.

I think it is traditional to wear it on the right hand or not at all during the ceremony.

Personally, I will be wearing it on my left hand as I do at any other time. I love the way it looks there, and it will be no trouble to switch band places to the e-ring on the outside after the ceremony.

Hm. Never thought about this but my e-ring does not fit on my right hand! I guess I'll either take it off right before the ceremony or just leave it on and change the order of the rings afterwards.

I wore it where I always wore it, on my left hand. During the ceremony my husband just put the wedding band on my left hand, and I switched them around later. No big deal, nobody will notice either way more than likely.

I moved my engagement ring to my right hand until right after the ceremony.

Same here. I wore my engagement ring on my right hand then switched it to my left hand after the ceremony.

A lot of people out it on their right ring finger. That's also what I plannnnnned to do, until we were standing at the alter and I realized it was still in my ring finger, oops! We did a wine box ceremony before the rings so I subtly moved it to my right hand during the walk over there, before the exchange of rings Smiley winking

I'm going to wear mine. I would at least bring it for photos.

ETA: I'm going to wear it on my ring finger. Just noticed a lot of people commenting that aren't.

I will wear mine on my right hand and switch it to my left after we exchange rings. I'm also wearing my promise ring on my right hand (I'm still in love with it, and it's beautiful enough to wear with my dress), so I might stack them (promise and e-ring) on my right ring finger as I'm getting dressed.

I'll probably leave mine on my left hand. I wear a ring on my right hand that FH gave me for my birthday before we were engaged. I always wear both of them and I would feel wrong not wearing them both on my wedding day

I'll be wearing it on my right hand for the ceremony then I'll put it on top of the band after the ceremony. I couldn't imagine not wearing it on our wedding day!

I'm wearing it. My wedding band is a wrap so it would look awkward without it.

I'm wearing it on my right hand then switching it over to my left hand after my band is on.
