Wedding 6 months away

Shell'a, on November 11, 2021 at 4:02 PM Posted in Planning 1 24

Heyyyy ladies!

We are planning for our wedding for May 2022 so about 6-7 months from now. I know its late notice, fiance and I have had things to prioritize prior to picking a solid date. Anyone plan a wedding in 6-7 months? I think i can do it, but any tips to make things smoother and easier pleaseeee lmk!

Also, this will be a wedding where we live in Texas, however our families live in Wisconsin. So they would be traveling. Any tips on how far of a notice we should give them would be greatly appreciated as well. xo

ps. we have not found a venue yet, we will be spending the next couple weeks looking at venues.

Thanks Ladies! Smiley heart

Congratulations on the engagement and setting a tentative date! 6-7 months Is a very short time to plan everything, but if you are up for the hard work, it is completely doable! Since this will be a destination wedding for your guests, you will want to give them ample notice. Typically, people send out save the dates for destination weddings 6-12 months in advance (in order to secure that date with their guests and also to allow them time to plan, save money, etc.). So I would definitely pick a venue and date ASAP so you can get your STDs out right away

Also, as far as trying to make planning as easy as possible on such a short timeline, I would try to find places that are as all-inclusive as possible. The more that is offered by your venue, the fewer vendors you will have to deal with (and less time spent on emailing, calling, visiting, etc. different vendors). A wedding planner/coordinator would probably be a really good idea also- they have an immense knowledge of the industry, and lots of contacts within it. They can likely find venues and vendors within your budget much quicker than you can.

Makes sense, thank you for all the advice. Wedding planners, how expensive are planners?

It depends a lot on the area you live. I would do a search for wedding planners in your area, and send out requests for quotes.

We were engaged for 6 months and 1 day (pre-COVID). It's going to be somewhat time consuming just because you're going to have a lot to decide in a very short time. The first thing you need is a venue, obviously - because without a venue you don't have a date. I picked my dress the same weekend we picked the venue because my mom was in town to go with me - but I had been looking online, since I knew it was coming. When you go, have an idea of what you like (I wanted strapless, simple, no lace, no beading, either a-line or ballgown). See if your venue has preferred vendors (catering, cake, etc.) it'll help. When looking at photographers, look at their portfolios to see if you like their style and if they offer an engagement session as part of a package go ahead and do them - you don't have to put them on save the dates or invitations, but they give you an idea of how y'all work together.

We planned our Vegas destination wedding in about 7-8 months. It was pretty easy, we just decided which place we were getting married, then pick one of their packages and adjusted it. We also found a place to take everyone to dinner after. One of the pros to our venue is it is at a hotel, so it will be easy for our guests to get there and not worry about transportation.

First and foremost you need to find a venue. You don't actually have a wedding date until a venue is secured. Then I would send out save the dates ASAP as they are typically sent out 6-9 months prior to the wedding. I would also try to see if you can find a venue that offers multiple things like food and drinks, flowers, etc. For once you do find a venue, ask if they have a list of preferred vendors. You will want to be very organized. I will say that you might have to reach out to a lot of vendors in order to find a vendor that is available since it is such a short time frame and vendors book out months in advance.

I was thinking we were cutting it close aiming for September - October 2022. A lot of venues are booked every Thursday - Sunday. But things will fall into place just have to work a little harder. Congratulations and good luck

Go buy your dress ASAP!! All the bride’s dress stores has a back order and my FMIL called me the other day saying the wedding dresses will go into shortage soon because every covid bride has changed the dates to 2022-23… secure your dress! I went dress shopping WED and found my YES dress in the first try… also, be open minded to buy your dress.. they have lots of clearance but I didn’t found mine for a lower price. I was aiming for $500-$1000 and now will be $1800 without tax and without alterations. I am aiming now for 2K-2.5K

I planned my wedding in 4.5 months. I won't say it was easy, and we did have to pay extra for a rush order on the dress, buts it's working out beautifully. 6 months is definitely doable!

CONGRATS! And it's not too late! My husband and I planned our wedding in like 2-3 months LOL! but it totally worked out considering that it was small and intimate Smiley smile

Let your guests know ASAP so it gives them enough time to save and book any traveling expenses.
If you have a wedding planner or plan on getting one then definitely utilize them. If you don't then have a physical wedding planner to go by. I used the one for wedding wire and it helped a lot to keep me on track for almost everything lol.
Start looking for outfits NOW! It is wedding season and A LOT of couples are getting married next year and in 2023. So, start looking ASAP! This goes for wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, and even tuxedos. Also if you need any alterations bring those in ASAP too because alterations will book up fast as well.
    You got this!!
