wedding album for the mother in law

hogwartsdork, on February 5, 2016 at 11:30 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I am going to be receiving all of my photos soon and was wondering how all of you laid out the parent albums. I'd rather get this out of the way for namely my mother in law-- who demanded the week after our wedding to see all of the photos and the complete video. She gets easily anxious, and while the requests have dropped off, I'm sure she's itching to get her "brag book."

So how did the rest of you handle this? Did you just keep it to the photos of your spouse's side or did you include pictures of your family as well?

I look forward to hearing your ideas Smiley smile

I'm interested in the answers as well, we're actually going to get both sets of parents a thumb drive with all of the picture on them so they can do what ever they'd like printing or sharing. Our photographer has really cute cases with the name and wedding date so that took out some of the extra thought for us.

I think that you should include a little bit of everything, but have the majority of the book be your spouses side, and pictures of you and your husband.

@ Carlyle - I was apprehensive about allowing my MIL access to my gallery. I know she would turn right around and send it out to a million people and it just felt like something so personal would be compromised. But you have inspired me to make a Snapfish album of photos that put the focus on them so they at least have access to working files.

I booked a photo album package with my photographer. We chose the album and then once our pics are taken, we choose our top 20 I think and he designs the album. This package also includes identical parent albums - 2 of them so each side gets one. The only difference is that the parent albums are a size smaller. Is this something you can look into? Our photographer also designed our guest book with our engagement pics and he did a wonderful job! I was blown away

We didn't choose the package that included the album; as we were told we could add it on after the fact when we were ready. But that is only for the main album which they would design at our discretion. My take away from what you are saying is that the parent albums are identical; therefore containing a little bit of everything.

I did it on Shutterfly. I just did one album for everyone. I did it in order of the day: getting ready, first look, formal pics, ceremony, reception, dances, etc. Then I did two pages for each family and a couple pages of my other favorite pics. Took me about 15 hours, so I didn't want to do individual ones. Parents LOVED IT! They loved seeing all the photos, esp the ones they weren't apart of. I gave them to each set of parents for christmas! We are all family now, and it's great to see the whole day.

@NowASeptMrs what a great idea! I hadn't even thought about this until I saw this thread... and I love that you made one album for everyone.

    Definitely doing this!

I included pictures of both families but tried to focus guest shots on their relatives as well as include a couple formal pics of their side of the family. My mother in law doesn't need a book of my mom's cousins dancing, she doesn't know them and my mom doesn't need formal shots of all my husbands aunts and uncles. I did make sure to include pictures of both sets of parents and siblings in each.

My sister did this with Shutterfly books as the family's Christmas presents from them the year of the wedding. The cover was the same: the big group photo with both families. But the inside was different: we definitely got more photos of our family, the in-laws got more of theirs.
