Wedding anxiety and the Delta variant

erista, on August 23, 2021 at 11:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi Everyone!

I'm about 2 months out from my wedding date (Oct. 23rd) and I'm so nervous about our wedding being cancelled by our venue because of the rising covid numbers. We've already had to postpone our wedding twice (once before covid even hit!) and we're just so ready to get married already! I'm not so concerned about guests canceling at this point- I totally understand if people are not comfortable attending- but I just don't want to get my whole wedding cancelled altogether. I'm curious how everyone else is dealing with any anxiety around planning a wedding while the numbers continue to rise?

My husband and I have our upcoming reception October 2nd. We had to cancel & postponed due to COVID as well, but we decided that we are going through with the reception no matter what this time. We lowered our guest count to 90ish (I'm sure a few will decline) and we also plan on giving out hand sanitizer as favors (we did the same for our microwedding last year).

Right now our state is 80% vaccinated, so I don't see a reason for us having to cancel. I've been speaking with my venue owner and so far so good. If it came down to it, would you consider getting legally married and pushing your reception back?

We're actually having a very small destination wedding (around 30 people, in Vegas) and a larger reception at a later date. We did just speak with our coordinator about a week ago, and she is cautiously optimistic that we should be good. Worse case scenario, if we did have to postpone or cancel, we were told we'd get a full refund. I think giving out hand sanitizers as favors it brilliant, and we are planning to do that as well! We absolutely would consider getting legally married, I just feel like with all the time and effort put into planning a regular wedding, doing a civil ceremony would be a bit of a disappointment, but, I should probably keep things in perspective- the most important thing is just for us to get married no matter what. Yes! That is definitely the most important thing, I feel like you guys will be fine though especially if it's only 30 people. I love Vegas, are you staying there before/after the wedding?

That's what I've been thinking. Since we're keeping it small, we should be ok. Yes we are staying before and after- for bachelor/bachelorette parties and then mini honeymoon. I'm super excited for it- looking forward to having some Vegas fun!

Our wedding is October 7th, we've already postponed once from 2020 and aren't postponing again regardless of what happens. 10 guests or 100 it will happen. We live in and are getting married in Las Vegas, we are a pretty much a hot spot right now but our venue and other vendors are confident that we will be able to move forward with minimal restrictions. Right now, only masks are required. Good luck and stay positive! Where in Las Vegas are you getting married?

Thank you so much for your reply Lisa! That actually makes me feel a bit better. That's basically my mentality at this point too....it's gonna happen no matter what! We are getting married at Mandalay Bay. Congratulations and good luck to you as well!

Mine is also October 23 this year. Very stressful we also had to postpone last year, but will not again. We have around 65 people if everyone comes, at this point as long as our families are there I'll be happy with that. Good luck with everything!

I agree with you completely, as long as our immediate family can safely attend, I'm fine with that. Good luck to you as well, wedding day twin! Smiley smile

At first I was overwhelmed with all the things that I needed to do, but I just started tackling small tasks a week at a time so I could gradually chip away at my seemingly never ending to-do list. I figured if I did at least one small thing every week, it wouldn't drive me as crazy. Plus, fortunately, I had a few items already bought and things taken care of from the first time around that I started planning- around 2 years ago. Another thing that has been extremely helpful is that my venue is pretty much an all-inclusive package- I didn't have to look for separate vendors for cake, makeup, flowers, accommodations....etc. plus my coordinator has been awesome. I feel kind of bad because I've have been pestering her so much with all my questions. Do you have a coordinator or someone who has been helping you during the planning process? Hang in there! We're almost there!

I get it, I think it's normal to lose motivation. It's such a long process. Most days I just want the day to be here already, and everything to be taken care of! The wedding seems like its so close and so far away at the same time. Maybe just take a day away from anything to do with wedding stuff- and do what you want to do? Like a mental and emotional reset.

Yes definitely, and ik your worried about it being canceled but your venue will keep you updated with everything. Let's just try to keep positive n keep checking things off of our list. 😊
