Wedding arch project

Victoria A, on July 8, 2017 at 9:59 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 41

This was my project for today and it turned out amazing. For a grand total of 30$ I have a wedding arch, it is made in 3 pieces that come apart for transport and are easily put together with 2 bolts. The materials I used are cheap and light and constructed to be hollow so each post weighs only about 15 or 20 pounds. My wedding is indoors on a stage in a non denominational chapel so don't have to worry about it standing up to weather or wind. The plan is to drape white cloth and have mumms and pumpkins maybe a lantern near the bottoms and the barrel in the picture will have my hourglass ceremony on it.

@stephanie I used 4x1x8ft pine planks from home depot. They are 2$ each and there are 12 of them. Each post is made of 4. It is a super cheap super soft and light wood not good for construction stuff but perfect for this project.

@jessica b I haven't thought about the fabric yet figured some kind of translucent white material would work but it's not my area of expertise. Anyone have any suggestions that would help a lot. But I figured u would need about 8 yards because it's 7 feet tall and 8 feet across.

It looks great to me! You could get a sheer curtain for the fabric. I helped with my brother's wedding a few years ago, and we found a bunch of nice curtains at Goodwill and used those to tie bows around the chairs. I think you would be able to find something there long enough to do what you are wanting!

At a recent beach wedding, they had 2 posts standing in the ground. At the top of each was a loop of rope. The cross bar went through the two loops for easy assembly on site. No nails, bolts, or complicated knots!

What are the overall dimensions of it? My FIL has agreed to make one but we're still trying to commit to a size.

@magnoliamarie it is 7 feet high and the cross bar is 8 feet across. There's about 5 inches of over hang on each side of each of the posts. I measured a door frame before I started so I knew about what I wanted height wise.
