Wedding band size... is .5 a size a big difference?

Jessica, on June 24, 2020 at 11:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I ordered my fiancé a wedding band in a size 9 about a month ago and it didn’t go past his knuckle. I’m on the hunt for another one now but don’t know if I should size up to a 9.5 or a 10. I saw a ring that I liked that’s on sale for $165 from sizes 6-9.5... once I click on size 10, the price jumps to $299! ( I’m on a budget!) I’m trying to surprise him and buy him a tungsten wedding band. I bought him a silicone one and he thinks that’s gonna be his ring but I want him to have a nicer one too.
Is .5 a size a big enough difference to fit past his knuckle, or should I try looking for a size 10 and hope it’s not too big? It’s a “comfort fit” style ring, and I’ve read those run bigger!

FYI tungsten can’t be resized so I wouldn’t guess on size before you buy one. Idk how much a difference half a size makes, but my e ring and wedding band are both size 4 from the same store and one is a little looser. In the summer my fingers get hot and swell and that small bit of wiggle room feels really nice.

I lost my diamond band for a 0.5 size difference but mine was full eternity and couldn't be resized

I lost a half a ring size through weight loss, and it was noticable- I had to wear a sizer until we got it resized. I would say that that's enough of a difference that you should be wary. Last thing you want is for it to be too small.

I agree with pp i would not guess on size. my husband and i have tungsten and it can't be resized. but also a 0.5 size difference IS noticeable, it can feel loose

It’s tough to say because I don’t know exactly how small the 9 was for him. I can say yes 0.5 size makes a huge difference (size 5 flies off my finger but size 4.5 fits me perfectly). But again I wouldn’t buy a ring if you aren’t 100% confident of his size. Can you go to a jeweler and have him measured so you know for sure? The $299 is a lot of money but it’ll be worse if you buy a ring that doesn’t fit.

Get a ring sizer at the very least.

What size is the silicone band? Does it fit? Silicone stretches over knuckles, but if it has to stretch too much to do that, it won’t be a good fit on the rest of the finger.
Don’t guess. Tungsten cannot be resized. A half size can be a big difference for some, not big enough for others. If it really wouldn’t fit at all over the knuckle, it’s probably not a big enough difference. All comfort fit means is that the inside of the ring has sloped edges, so while the very edges might be a little looser, the inner middle of the band is the exact same size as a standard fit ring in the same size. Get a ring sizer (many online places will ship you one for free) or have him sized in a jewelry store. Remember to be careful with tungsten bands as they can shatter if dropped on certain surfaces (such as concrete).

I would just purchase a ring sizer from Amazon or go to a local jeweler to get sized so you know for sure.
