Wedding band sizing

MeganM, on January 9, 2017 at 12:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Has anyone gotten a slightly larger wedding band than their e-ring? My e-ring is a 4.25 and I was thinking about getting a 4.5 for the band. I'm afraid I'll gain weight with pregnancy/age and won't be able to wear it. Since it's an eternity band it can't be resized. Anyone else struggled with something similar and/or have any advice?

ETA: Also I am hoping the e-ring will keep the band on since I plan to wear both with the band on the inside.

I got mine a size bigger. FWIW, it still was too tight when I was pregnant.

This may be a strange questions, but: How long have you worn your engagement ring? Have you worn it through a full cycle of seasons, winter and summer? Has it ever felt too loose during the coldest months? If it does, then I wouldn't recommend getting a larger size band.

My rings are 4.75; the jeweler (in January) recommended going down to 4.5 when I first got sized. I resisted because I was afraid of it being too tight in the summer. I'm glad I did, because it fits quite comfortably in the summer - I need to seriously twist and pull to get them off in July and August. Yes, they're a little looser in the winter, but not so loose they'll fall off. Just my perspective. ;-)

Thanks for the feedback. @Zaz, I've been engaged since August 2015, so have had the luxury of going through all the seasons. I'm thinking I'll stick with the quarter size up. And @LaGrosera, it makes sense that it still wouldn't fit, thanks for your input Smiley smile

My ring size varies slightly but not by that much. I'm planning to get a silicone band for the gym and eventually, I also plan wear it during pregnancy.

I just bought my wedding bands. My size for the wedding bands went up a whole size since they are much thicker with all three bands together. We are doing wedding band, engagement ring, wedding band. I would suggest to try it on at a store with your ring on. You might be surprised that you need a bigger band or not.

I was told when I got my wedding band that when I actually start wearing my band that they may have to resize both rings since it will be thicker when I'm wearing both it will make it harder to get on and off and it will change the sizing a bit.

Ask about ring guards! Even though I just got engaged, I haven't had the luxury (yet) to see how my fingers swell or not, but I have skinny fingers and I like my rings to feel a little snug especially since I do shower with my e-ring on. But the ring guard is adjustable to how you see fit. The jeweler provided mine for free.

@librasnlove, can you share a pic of your ring guard? I know that there a lot of different options for them out there!

@littledemon here's a couple different angles. It's not uncomfortable at all and doesn't damage the band. Hope this helps Smiley smile

It looks a little worn out because I adjust it so much lol. I'm not sure what the metal is made out of but it is sturdy, doesn't turn my finger green or anything like that & again my jeweler provided it to me for free and fit it onto my band. This was from Kay's btw

You can always buy a ring snuggie if its too big until you can get it sized they sell them for like $2 at Wal-Mart or target you also get like 4 or 5 in the pack

My jeweler recommended I go a half size up for my band. The e-ring will keep the band on if you wear that because it's snug, then the band won't need to be super snug and won't be uncomfortable.

My band is bigger as well, jeweler recommended it, wearing multiple rings at once makes them fit tighter. I also live in AZ, so I want the room to swell in the disgusting summer heat.

I sized my E ring from a 4.75 to 4.25. My band is almost double the thickness so it's a 4.5. The E ring should help it stay on during the cold months if there's an issue.

I wear a 4.5 and I am ordering a 5 this month for my band. I'm just worried about when I get pregnant i do not want to have to have my ring cut off. Especially with how much we are paying for it!

I'm a 6.5 size ring. I bought both my band and my ering in 6.5 and had them soldered together. I'd say together they fit like a 6.25 now, possibly a 6. I definitely wouldn't recommend going up a size--it's just that wearing two together makes them seem tighter. If you plan to wear them separately ever, you want it to fit perfectly.

Unless you plan on having 8 children and being pregnant for many years straight, I wouldn't let that have any impact at all on your ring sizing. You can always buy a cheap stand-in if you get very swollen fingers, which not everyone does.

I just ordered my wedding band (!!!) and because it is a bit thicker than my ering, it ended up being almost a full size bigger (6.25 to a 7). It fits well though and I'm not worried about it falling off since it'll be on the bottom

I wear 5.5. My ering is 6.25 because it is 6mm wide. I got a 2mm eternity wedding band in size 7. It fit at the time we bought it in October on a warm day. I worry it will be way too large to wear alone but my ering will hold it in place.
