Wedding Bands!! -- Mariachi in Chicagoland area

kristina, on September 21, 2015 at 1:58 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 9

I am getting married in Brigdeview, IL, and we are looking for a mariachi band to play during cocktail hour and dinner. Does anyone have any recommendations of mariachi bands with excellent reviews that wouldn't mind me singing a tune with them? Thanks in advance!!

There is one song I would like to sing with them..not the whole set haha! It's a family thing that everyone would get a kick out of! Not trying to take the show away from them =).

I don't live in IL so I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to say this is pretty neat. Back at home (Mexico City and most central Mexican states), it's pretty common for the groom to sing a song with the Mariachi when they arrive. If the bride has a good voice, sometimes she'll sing a song too Smiley smile

Welcome to WeddingWire @kristina! Smiley smile

Have you searched the WeddingWire vendor catalog under 'Bands' to see what options there might be? I think first you'll want to find some bands that you like and fit your vision, and then when you meet with them, ask about singing along...

    Good luck!

I don't have a suggestion, however I just wanted to say that all mariachis that I have seen perform encourage the guests, bride and groom to sing.

If you find one let me me know. I'm also looking for one. However I prefer a female mariachi but it's so hard to find. I've seen a few videos of all male mariachis, but not up to my standard.

Good luck! I would say check gigmasters, but I had a slightly bad experience with the mariachi band I hired off of there. The band I hired was really flaky with communicating with me but in the end they did a good job. My advice is request to hear the band before booking them (in person at another gig) and make sure that they are professional and prompt with returning emails etc before booking them.

I did check gigmasters and gigsalad, but there don't seem to be very many of them on there. I think I need to go to the local restaurants on the weekends and check them out on the weekends. I saw some youtube videos that I was impressed with, but, (and please no one get offended because both my husband and I are Mexican,) but they have a reputation of being late to everything, and that has me a little worried!! I saw a few reviews on yelp and that seemed to be the major complaint on the bands that were on there, so I was looking to the forum to hear if anyone has had real experience with any bands that was super positive. Thank you all for your comments so far!
