Wedding Bands - What, When, and Where??

Julia, on April 14, 2019 at 5:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 45

Ya'll I know my fiance spent a lot of money on my engagement ring and it is GORGEOUS so I don't want to be "cheap" buying our wedding bands but I'm really not one to spend a lot on jewelry for him or for myself - I have no clue where to start looking for bands especially since I have a Marquise cut ring and I'll need a decent v-shape to go around it.

I think he wants Tungsten? Idk, neither does he haha. Someone help with where to start! What did you pay for your bands, how far in advance did you get them, and where did you find them?

Try Etsy. You can find some great deals and some jewelers who can custom make a piece to fit to your engagement ring if you send them the measurements and tell them what you want.

FH got tantalum for a darker look ring like he wanted because our jeweler told us tungsten breaks easily compared to other kinds! We went together to select my engagement ring and also together to select our bands

As as far as where to go I’m not able to help much because all of our rings came from the same local jeweler here in Atlanta

First off wanted to say we’re gettting married in the SAME DAY 🥰

Also, for rings I would just search all your local jewelery stores. A lot of the most common ones like Helzberg, Kay, Zales, etc. always have sales. We just bought my FH his band for 1/2 off at Helzberg!

I've definitely tried a few on but the jewelry store route would likely bust our budget :/

You can shop at jewelry stores to just get an idea. Then you can order online or wait until they have a sale.
I looked online before buying, but I couldn’t commit without trying it on first.

Tungsten doesn't have to be expensive. I got my fiance's bands on Amazon...I had him pick a few out he liked and then chose 2. He didn't want me to spend a lot of his ring and I didn't want to be cheap either. I spoke with other men and the general consensus was that they didn't care about it costing a lot. So in the end I listened to him and got what he wanted on Amazon. It in no way compares to amount he spent on me but he has consistently reassured me that, I'm supposed to sparkle😉

Try SzekiStudio on Etsy. I’ve gotten rings from him. They are inexpensive and beautiful. He passes on the savings to his clients because he doesn’t have the same overhead costs of a traditional jeweler. He also has curved wedding bands that could potentially fit with your engagement ring. He also takes custom orders if he doesn’t have exactly what you’re loking for.

Daughter and SIL shopped for their bands at Black Friday sales and saved significantly over regular prices.

So a lot of people don't know this, but a lot of the same bands that the big time jewelers carry are on Amazon, for 1/10 to 1/20 the price. They have a wide selection of tstyles and sizes.

Tungsten rings - you can get them anywhere really. Chain stores, locally owned shops. My husband chose a tungsten band and it cost about $300 and took a couple of weeks to come in. I would caution you though that tungsten rings cannot be resized and have a breaking point if dropped just right, although not likely to happen. Keep in mind that as your FH's fingers grow or shrink as he gains or loses weight as he gets older, he may not be able to wear his original band anymore.

We purchased my band from the local jeweler who made my engagement ring for about $1300. We shopped around thinking maybe a chain store would be cheaper but that wasn't the case at all. Jared's wanted close to $1000 more to make my band. Chain stores want to sell you inventory they already have. They don't necessarily want or need the custom work so they tend to overcharge and the quality isn't nearly as good as you would get from a local shop. If you choose to go with a custom made ring, check out a couple of locally owned jewelers and give yourself at least 2 to 3 months. Mine was made in 10 days, but another jeweler gave us a time of 8 weeks.

I wish that was a possibility, but he had my engagement ring custom made when he was deployed in Dubai so that would be difficult haha

We chose Tungsten because he works with electricity and can't really have metals like gold or silver and I'd rather the ring break and be replaced than stretch and hurt his finger like I've seen happen to my dad, honestly we will probably also get silicone bands to wear but we want something nicer for the ceremony obviously.

Thank you for the advice on the time! I will keep that in mind Smiley smile
