Wedding Blues

I’m really excited to be getting married but every time I think about the wedding I get so depressed. I’m really embarrassed and depressed that I can’t have a wedding. For context, my husband is not a US citizen and his first language isn’t English (but I can speak his language fluently). Our faith is very important to us but we live in a very small town and have not been able to find a pastor that speaks his language or a competent translator. We wanted to live stream for his family in his home country too which would be impossible to do if the service was only in English. Additionally he’s much more comfortable saying vows, etc. in his first language. On top of that, my family will not offer any financial support and his family is very poor (his father passed away when he was young and his mom makes the equivalent of 3000USD/year). Because of his immigrant status in the US he can’t legally work and I really can’t afford to do anything for our wedding considering I’m already supporting the two of us and paying for both of our college tuitions here in the US. I know I should just get over myself and go to the courthouse and “make the most of it” but I honestly feel super sad and depressed about the situation. I don’t want anything fancy but I at least wanted to have some little wedding and some pictures to remember the day. Maybe I’m just sounding too entitled. Anyways, thank you for just letting me get this off my chest. I don’t really have anyone else to talk about this with and every time I mention something about it to my fiancé it really makes hime upset because he knows he and his family are unable to provide any help at the moment. That is all. End of story and thanks for listening.

Ok girl .........Head to a thrift/consignment shop and find a dress that makes you feel amazing and maybe even a little bridal in. Look there for a sparkly or special head band to wear, or go to Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics and grab a veil ($12.99) in their bridal section. Stop at your grocery store and grab those pretty $5 cut flower bouquets to hold during your ceremony. Do you have mutual friends? Have one go to the courthouse (or wherever) with you and be your "photographer". Put aside $10 every pay (you can do it, I promise) and use that for your special wedding day dinner. If you tell the restaurant, they may toss in a free champagne toast, or something else to make it super special. You might even try to find a restaurant that offers a live band/music (there are tons here, and are NOT bars) that you could ask them to play a favorite song for you and your new hubby to dance to - hand your phone to waitress for pictures (they love doing that stuff) Bottom line, with a little research and effort, you CAN make your wedding something special to look back on and smile over!! Best of luck to you both, and BIG hugs.
