Wedding Cake at a Brunch Reception?

I've never been completely tied to the idea of having a traditional wedding cake. I was already considering other options, and now that I'm having a brunch reception, I'm not sure that a wedding cake even fits. What dessert would you serve at a brunch reception?

I dont like cake. We're having an evening wedding, but skipping cake and having donuts instead! so that could also work for a brunch wedding. Other ideas: crepe cake, Belgian waffle bar, strawberry shortcake bar

We're having a brunch wedding, and as previous posters have said, there's always time for cake! With that being said I am having a cupcake cake, the top will be the either 1 or 2 tiers and the remaining will be cupcakes!

I vote yes for cake even if it's in the morning.

Everyone expects a wedding cake at a reception -- even if it's a cake and punch reception.

If you're doing brunch (lovely idea and far more budget friendly), roll that cake out with pride. Seriously, we're all waiting to see it. Even if we don't like cake (not a fan), you'd better believe I'm taking a photo of that artistic creation.

    Buy a cake. Really...you won't regret it.

What's wrong with cake? The cake cutting ceremony is like the best part of the reception! How can you want to skip feeding your new husband? Plus, if you don't have a wedding cake, what will you eat on your 1st year wedding anniversary?

I just might be more disappointed if I went to wedding with no wedding cake vs. a wedding with no open bar...

Edit: Waffle bar, strawberry shortcake bar just sounds too "bridal/baby shower-y" to me than wedding.
