My wedding cake is part of my package deal from my caterer which is great because it made the wedding cake process very easy. I already placed the order for a 3 tiered double layer wedding cake. I plan to put double layered white and black ribbon around each tier, however I still need to decide on the rest of the cake. I need to decide if I want a cake topper or flowers as a topper. Also I need to decided if I want flowers on each layer, whether it be sugar or silk or fake. My wedding flowers are hydrangeas so if I use flowers that would be the flower I choose. I have attached a pick of the general design of the cake, however my cake tiers will be shorter since I'm only doing double layer and it will be three tiers. What do you guys think? What are you guys doing for your cake?

    We are doing something similar to this- but with a simple "love" sign on top in gold.

    @Joy - I like your last post saying ribbons, just a few flowers, and a topper. I think that sound lovely! I think you can definitely do ribbons and flowers, just not too many flowers.

    @Jenn B - that cake is beautiful!

    We're doing one of the two with an ivory gardenia on top.

    I love the look of "naked" cakes decorated with flowers. I think we're going to try to do that but I did buy something to use as a cake topper. It's a vintage Lenox figurine so if it doesn't end up working on the cake we'll just have it on the table with the decor. I liked it since our pup won't be at our wedding, the figurine represents her.

    It's 3-1/2” high, 2-5/8” wide and 4-1/4”long so it might end up being too big to go on the cake. My friend said she could make a little wreath out of millinery flowers for around its neck Smiley smile

    Ours is three layer and will be similar to the picture you posted, but also with navy ribbon and the bottom will have flowers on the left side, with sunflowers being the main flower. I don't know how much sugar flowers cost but I hear they're super expensive. Our baker includes the cost of flowers with her cake, but we had to buy a cake topper separately if we wanted that, so that influenced our decision as well.

    We found a cake we loved online that had cherry blossoms as decor, to honor my DH's Japanese heritage. DH wanted a pink cake instead of the blue I originally envisioned LOL, but otherwise it's the same... Buttercream icing (vs. fondant), with sugar flowers and buttercream 'branches', and two wired birds on top with a pair of (faux) rings. I ordered the birds online, and the rings from Michael's. The sugar flowers were ~$30, plus a few yards of thin sateen brown ribbon for the bottom of each layer, $2.

    We also had as a alternative, two small white porcelain birds - etsy has a bunch, but Michaels and other craft stores have them in the spring and summer. They also look beautiful paired with flowers on top. I'd go with fresh, by the way... they have a softness in the way they lay on the icing that I think is hard to replicate with artificial... just personal preference, though.

    These are the white porcelain lovebirds that we didn't end up using, but I think they'd look really beautiful with a few fresh flowers, or you could even do a little flower 'nest' maybe?

    @joy, We're going with a 1920's feel with a mixture of colors ....gold, silver, ivory, shades of pink and crimson red.

    So many gorgeous cakes on here. If we could only have multiple weddings! LOL.

    We are doing something similar to this cake- light blue with silver and pearl dragees and this is our topper. There will be some dragees under/around it too. We are doing three tiers.

    Thanks for all the advice and input. I have to finalize this cake by this weekend (3 weeks before wedding). I drew a sketch. Opinions needed. Thanks!

    This is the model of it at the bakery, mine will have eggplant/gray 2 tone flowers. Also attached the topper I made, the dinosaurs will go underneath it
