So we are trying to decide on what flavor of cake we want to do for our wedding. I was originally thinking of doing vanilla cake with semi naked frosting but I felt like that was kind of boring. So I went on Pinterest to look for some ideas and I came across a beautiful red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I know that it might not be everyone's slice of cake but I love it and so does my fiance! We got some negative feedback on the cake flavor being red velvet because it's "not formal". I was wondering what other people's opinions are. I didn't even know that there were flavors of cakes that aren't "formal".

ALSO, we will have 2 dozen vanilla cupcakes & 2 dozen German chocolate cupcakes so that there is a variety for everyone.

Hello!

We just had our cake tasting here are the flavors we tried;
1. Vanilla w/dulce de leche 2. Red velvet 3. Lemon 4. Guava 5. Chocolate
We are doing a 5 tier cake, and will probably chose 4/5 flavors.
I am not a fan of red velvet, but my FH and his family loved it, so we will probably go with 1,2,3, and 5.

Ok had to do some googling for I had never heard of formal wedding cake flavor and it does not appear to be a thing. Now wiki not the best of sources but there is some fascinating facts that I enjoyed so thought I would share. Glad we moved away from fruit cake 🤮

Didn’t realize there was a “formal wedding cake” flavor... what does that taste like? Lol! That cake looks beautiful! You’re giving everyone the option of other flavors which is awesome. This is your wedding- I am totally agree with the others- & therefore it’s your & your FH’s decision.

This is one of those planning questions that has no "perfect" answer. Who are you most wanting to please? Yourselves? Your guests? (Believe it or not, my mother insisted on a flavor that my dad liked for my first marriage. Neither the cake nor the groom worked that well!) Looking for a "safe" flavor? Or are you up for something totally different? Just go with what makes you happy. You can't please everyone, so for your day, I'd say it should be what you like.
