Hmmm, not sure about that but they are so much cheaper. Anyone used walmart to make their wedding cake? and how did it turn out?

Do you have a Publix? They are known for their cakes and I think reasonable. Very delicious!

Jillian, you are cool. The wedding I went to only offered chocolate. I hate chocolate cake. Other people thought it was really good. I like their white cake.

Good tasting cakes, but don't do anything intricate!

I couldn't imagine only offering one flavor!! Oh and also, I customizedy cake slightly.. it comes in champagne and white, I got it in white and purple. So at least my walmart does allow some customization!

I don't know about walmart, but I worked at price chopper for years. Most of the bakery manages and people who decorate cakes have been there for years. One woman had even been there for like ten years and made beautiful cakes. Because people constantly get transferred to different stores they learn so many things. Definitely a good place to get a cake.

I don't shop at Walmart for personal reasons, however, I don't seen any problem with getting your cake there or any other grocery store. I was going to get mine at Costco but FMIL wants to get me a nicer one.

I have nothing against walmart cakes I've never seen their wedding cakes but just a thought for you, ask around and see if any of your friends or family know of an individual who does cakes. Might be an alternative to a bakery cake. I have a friend who we call the cake lady she does all of my cakes. She's doing my wedding cake for $1.75 a person. You might get more choices that way too.

OMg cake!!!! My favorite wedding detail!!!! Yummy!!!

I think some of this advice is great. If you do go with walmart, maybe ordering a simple cake would be best!

Never had a wal-mart cake, but when I worked for a caterer the hands down best wedding cake I ever tried was from Costco. They did the trick with the 2-tiered fancy cake and then a larger sheet cake in the back (side note: the people who cut the cake LOVE this!!!), but it was fantastic.

Walmart is hit or miss, if you want to be safe, order three smooth iced rounds, a 12 or 15 inch base, a eight or ten inch middle and a five inch baby top layer, and order sugar flowers online to decorate the cake on location. Have them give u three diff boxes. (Dont try and drive a tall cake anywhere) If they can give you dowel rods, then when u arrive stack the middle layer on the base, and stick them into the center of the cake about four inches apart, all the way down, then cover the area with the top layer, and decorate with real flowers or sugar flowers. Don't expect fancy piping from Walmart.

I have been doing wedding cakes at walmart for 12 years yes we do have a few limitations like design but we are somewhat flexible at least at my store we will change colrs if we can and mix designs if needed and possible. this year they have offered the option of doing two flavors of cake where in the past it was white or chocolate you can now do the tiers in chocolate and white alternating you can also have them filled. no we do not deliver. we have had limited training most of the time so we do not do fondant cakes we do the buttercream icing and the bestcream whipped icing. there are certain things to consider also if purchasing from walmart like if you are transporting the cake it needs to be kept flat and cool if the icing is exposed to temps above 70 degrees for an extended time the icing will melt. I always inform my customers of this. I did my wedding cake from walmart and will be doing my step daughters cake in september. if you are looking for affordability and are flexible I would say a Walmart cake is a viable option but if you are looking for the ultimate cake( a specific flavor, ultimate smoothness, complex designs)than you should choose the more expensive option of a true bakery that delivers and the full package. IN my 12 years I have only had a few complaints and those were due to improper transportation.

I used Walmart Cake decorating. I ordered a 3 tier cake 2 months in advance to pick up at 2pm for a 5pm wedding. At 2:30pm they tell me they have tried twice to make the 3 tiers but it crumbles. NO CAKE!! They ruined it. They DID make me 2 sheet cakes for free..still, my wedding reception did not have a pretty wedding cake because of Walmart.

    Hope this helps!!

If you want to save money you could have a small decorated cake for looks and a sheet cake in the back that will be cut and served. Could save you a lot and you would still get a pretty cake Smiley smile I wouldn't recommend getting wal mart to do it.

Here is a picture of a cake from Walmart. Their cake layers are shipped in frozen from Canada. Their frosting also is premade and comes in 5 gallon buckets. Ask to see the ingredient list on the frosting. The problem with ordering any cake from Walmart is that their staff changes constantly and good decorators are hard to find. The bride that ordered this cake sat down with the person that was suppose to decorate her cake. When it was time for her cake to be made, that particular decorator no longer worked there.

My cake and cupcakes were from Walmart. Both turned out great! I had worries about going this route, but the employees in the bakery were knowledgable, and willing to combine two different designs into one. I combine pictures of the two designs from their book so they had a picture of what I wanted and I made sure they could fix it if I wasn't happy with it on the day of. But I worried for nothing. It looked great, and tasted great. All night my guests raved about how much they loved the cake. I got a 2 tier cake and 124 cupcakes for $110 and I am so happy with my decision. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
