Wedding Cake or Dessert Table

Mrs Green, on April 28, 2017 at 3:04 PM Posted in Planning 11 30

Hey Ladies!

Happy Friday!

My FH and I are going back and forth because we aren't sure whether we want a wedding Cake or just desserts. I want a cake simply to use the top tier, freeze and do the anniversary thing. However, my FH doesn't really eat cake like that. And I don't want to spend money on something that may possibly be wasted by guests. We were also thinking about cupcakes.

Will you be having a cake? What are your thoughts?

We couldn't decide either... we went with both... small cake for us to cut and then a dessert table with assortment of cookies, bars, cupcakes etc...

ETA: I've frozen a cake before (previous marriage)... it was sealed properly and everything, still tasted nasty... just eat the cake at the wedding! Order a new cake the next year if you like...

Get a faux cake with a real top layer. Cheaper and you get a "Wedding look" most people go for the desserts over cake when presented with both.

@Karen, I think it depends on who makes it. I've had my aunts anniversary cake, it was delicious.

@Jennifer, we did talk about a faux cake. Just didn't know how it would look.

We don't love cake so we did a dessert table with pie and donuts - no regrets!

I only had a three tier cake because I wanted photos of it. Haha. We also had gourmet flavored cupcakes and a variety cookies from the same bakery. My friends are still raving about the cupcakes. No one really mentioned the cake and there was a lot of it leftover.

I've heard that from so many brides that the cake is always wasted.

Doing gourmet donuts as our main dessert with a couple of small cakes for cutting/an alternate dessert option.

We are doing cupcakes and late night donuts. FH isn't a big dessert person and we aren't doing a cake cutting so this way our guests get flavor and dessert options!

I'm doing a small, two tier just for traditional cake cutting purposes and then having desserts, such as cupcakes of different assortments Smiley smile

My FH and I are also on the fence. People seem to love the cupcake idea. But at the same time I only like cheesecake so I probably wouldn't eat any if there were any leftover anyway. FH has mentioned it a few times to have a dessert table with eclairs and pastries and stuff but I haven't been convinced yet. Like others said, if you can do both then do both. If you can only do one I'd say do cupcakes.

We went with a wedding cake. For us we like the idea of the cake cutting and how pretty it all looks. Plus we broke down the cost of dessert table v wedding cake for the same amount of people and the cake was most cost effective and best fit in our budget. IMO go with what you can afford and what fits the formality/size/appetites of your wedding. As long as there is enough for guests I don't think anyone will mind if you don't Smiley smile

I'm having 50 guests. Very small and very minimal. I guess I don't want to get stuck with a cake at the end of the night lol

Budget wise, it's going to have to be one or the other.

Well if extra cake is a concern, if you choose to order a cake you tell them how many people you have coming and they make one based on the size of your reception.

We are doing both- multiple different flavored cakes, pies, cookie shots (cookie with shots of milk) and a small traditional cake for the cake cutting ceremony
