Hello!

My FH and I are non traditional people and are at the point in planning where we are deciding what is and isn't necessary for our wedding day. We are having a bonfire with a s'mores bar and giving our guests the ingredients to build a snore as their favor. So my question is do we really need a wedding cake? Neither myself or my husband really enjoy wedding cakes at weddings and find that it's not an expense we need. Would you be upset if you went to a wedding with no cake?

You could always do some simple cupcakes, cookies, pies. Like other people have suggested. I'd say if you don't want a cake, don't get it! But I would have a couple of dessert options personally. Smiley smile

I would be disappointed about no cake, and even more disappointed if my favor was all I had as an option for dessert. Smores are messy, and fires and formal clothes don't mix.

It's not just what you two like though. YOU may not like cake, but it is generally expected. I say have an inexpensive, simple cake.

We are doing donuts (and maybe cookies) in place of cake

I hate marshmallows. I would be pretty bummed if that was my only dessert option. I love wedding cake. And a lot of guests do too. And since your reception is to thank you guests you should take that into consideration.

Yes, the cake is my favorite part of the reception.

I would be disappointed if there was no cake. Although I love s'mores (we had a s'mores bar too), I wouldn't want a s'mores kit to take with me as a favor as I don't have a campfire nearby - it would be wasted.

I would be disappointed too. Making s'mores while dressed up and drinking doesn't sound fun to me, and I love s'mores like crazy! I'd recommend other options, even if it isn't traditional wedding cake.

We aren't huge fans of cake either. And we also did a s'mores bar. We had 5 different kinds of chocolate and 2 different kinds of graham crackers. In addition, we had an ice cream bar, since that's something we do LOVE! I think the s'mores was fun, people enjoyed it, but I think people were glad there was something else. Not everyone made it out to the s'mores, and we ended up with A LOT left over so I know not everyone ate them.

You don't have to have cake by any means. My fiance and I are planning an ice cream bar instead of cake! But I think another dessert option besides just s'mores would be good.

We are doing an indoor s’mores bar rather than individually wrapped s’mores to include white chocolate, Reese’s, and other s’mores options. We might do a sheet cake depending on our convos with our parents. You could add mini cupcakes or cake pops to a s’mores bar to create a full bar. I would definitely say with the outdoor bonfire guests should know that will be the main reception and any desserts should be able to eat with your hands. You could buy pre maid options from Sams/costco and decorate the dessert bar yourself.
