Wedding cake

What type of wedding cake is best? Fondant or regular icing ? I personally think fondant tastes pretty bad but looks beautiful. I want a cake that’s tastes great. What flavor are you choosing ?

Usually if you have fondant it is for looks only and is removed before eating. They will be a layer of butter cream under it.
I don’t think our caterer removed our fondant, and you’re right it’s not great, lol. We just did wedding cake flavor, which is almond with chocolate fondant, vanilla, and raspberry filling between the layers. 1 flavor for each tier.

Oh wow, that's really good to know that there is a regular cake underneath all those layers of sugar. I'm thinking about getting the raspberry cream cake. yummy !!!!

For some reason it did not occur to me until later that i could do a tier each different flavor. so in the end when i realized i could, i did the largest tier as mango and the other two as strawberry

Fondant goes straight in the trash and because it’s more expensive, guests are literally throwing your money away by not eating since hardly anyone actually enjoys eating it and there isn’t enough icing underneath as it is only intended as glue for the fondant.

You would be very surprised that a majority of cake photos online that look perfect in every way are actually buttercream or cream cheese or white chocolate that has been painted. If you want straight edges, you don’t get that with fondant, only buttercream or white chocolate. If you want something for looks only that you don’t care if people eat then go with fondant. A lot of the fondant cakes you see have mostly inedible parts inside. The Food Network show that Duff Goldman does is 90% fondant and gears and 10% edible cake and prices that would blow your mind. As a guest, the best tasting cakes I have had were buttercream from the grocery store local to the couples. You would never guess looking at them that they came from a grocery store but they blew everyone out of the water.

We were surprised at being in a major city the lack of variety of flavors. We wanted chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and raspberry jam filling but couldn’t find anywhere offering to make it. Most bakers’ cakes were too dry or exotic combinations that don’t appeal. The baker whose tasting we did enjoy offers Mexican chocolate cake, Cinnamon cake with cream cheese and red velvet with cream cheese. We may go with a couple other flavors too. We don’t like generic flavors and our families/friends don’t either.
