Wedding Cake

Catherine, on December 9, 2022 at 3:41 AM Posted in Planning 1 6

I was wanting a 3 tier mirror glaze cake for our wedding as I love the glossy finish. I was wanting to put some ribbons at the bottom of each tier but was told you can't add ribbons to glazed cakes, is this true? If so, what other technique can give a shiny look (or close to it) that can have ribbons added.

This was my original desired cakeWedding Cake 1
But it was going to be too expensive so this next one is more of what we'll go for but with more pink. Wedding Cake 2

That is a question for local bakeries to find out what they can do

I've tried. They just keep saying you can't put ribbon to glaze, they don't say why or suggest anything else. It's very frustrating

My mom works with a lot of pastry chefs and went to culinary school. It has to do with the ribbons staying flat/smooth on the glaze. Also if anything touches the mirror glaze, object/hand/tool/ribbon it dulls and dents the glaze making it not smooth. Once you ruin the finish, there’s no fixing it

Thank you. Do you know if there is any alternative finish?

    As in the exterior?
You might look into buttercream and airbrushing a galaxy scene or multi colored marbled fondant to look like outer space with gold dust as stars. Neither will give you gloss, but they’ll both be able to have ribbon on the bottom of each tier. I will say, fondant doesn’t taste very good

Fondant, while it doesn't taste very good, can be brushed with a shimmer finish to give a metallic sheen. Nothing will have the same gloss as a glaze, sadly. Goodluck in your search! I hope you are able to find something you love ❤️
