Wedding cake

Janae, on March 17, 2021 at 7:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
I am looking for someone to make my wedding cake. I reached out to a bakery that is highly recommended, they told me they'd get back to me later on the day. They did not. I called again and once again they said they'd get back to me later that day. Once again they did not. They finally got back to me a week later after I had to reach out again. My question is should I even try working with them, if I've had to basically beg them to get back to me? I know everyone is busy right now, but businesses should get back to people when they say they will. FYI it's hard to find wedding cake bakers in my area.

If you have to track them down for a response, skip them and move on because it's likely they won't show up at your wedding.

Take a look at Yelp, Instagram, the local grocery store.

If you have to struggle to get them before they got your money, that’s a red flag. Usually they are on point in the beginning when they want you to sign a contract. I’d say look elsewhere. How busy could they possibly be? Its covid times they’re probably working at half the demand.

Definitely move on. If that’s a glimpse as how they do business, I wouldn’t have much faith in them on the day of...

That's the crazy thing they have really good reviews, and are a favorite at my venue. But they left me not wanting to work with them. Sucks because they do beautiful cakes.

I personally wouldn’t want to hire a vendor that was hard to get in contact with. We had a similar issue with a cake vendor we tested out and we decided for getting one that was more responsive and reliable just so we wouldn’t have to stress about it

I refused to work with unprofessional vendors. I would move on. If you had to hunt them down before, you will have to again.

I'm kind of with everyone else here; if you have to hunt them down I'd suggest looking elsewhere. If you're already feeling like you don't want to work with them based on what's happened so far, listen to that feeling. FH and I had to do that with a venue we were really interested in. They had a few different ceremony sites to choose from that were all really pretty and a fantastic sculpture garden where our reception would have been. Their food and beverage prices were just a tad lower than the venue we ended up going with and one of their food options was a pizza buffet. We were pretty stoked on it. I filled out the online form and sending an additional email about 2 weeks before our state went into lockdown again in December. The online form stated that they would respond within 48 hours. After not hearing anything for 4 days I gave them a call. Nobody answered so I left a message. I tried calling again the next day, and again nobody answered. I didn't leave a message that time because I had just left one the day before and they had the online form and an email from me. At this point we were about 1 week out from the lockdown going into effect. Lockdown started on a Monday and 4 days before that (on Thursday) I called again, hoping we could set up a venue tour for that weekend before lockdown. No answer, so I left another voicemail. I called again the next day and someone finally answered! The woman told me she would pass my information along to the event coordinator and he would get back to me. I asked if I could set up a venue tour for that weekend and she just said, "The venue coordinator will email you." Well, he didn't email me until Tuesday, the day after the lockdown went into effect. At that point they couldn't do tours because of said lockown, and I was frustrated because I had been trying to get a venue tour set up for TWO WEEKS before the lockdown started. We didn't want to fully give up because we really liked that sculpture garden and the pizza buffet option. (By the way, that pizza buffet also had allergy-friendly options which is great because my mom is allergic to basically everything.) But 6 weeks later we're still in lockdown, only about 3 months out from our wedding, haven't been able to tour their venue, and were at a standstill with planning because we'd done all we could do without having a venue booked. So we told them never mind because we need to get this decided and we're not going to book a venue without seeing it. So we went with our top pick at the time and they've been absolutely wonderful to work with. We had toured our venue about a week before I contacted the other one and they held our date for us until we got back to them 2 months later. To me, that was just going above and beyond and we already had full trust in the event coordinator from our initial tour. I'm super stoked on the venue we chose, even though it costs a little more. It's absolutely worth it for the peace of mind and to be able to work with people we can trust and actually get in contact with easily.

TL/DR: Pick someone you don't have to chase down and can trust. It sounds like that isn't the case with this bakery, so I'd look elsewhere. Saving that bit of stress is definitely worth it.

Personally, I would move on. If I have to keep getting a hold of them, it would make me worry that they will most likely not even show up at all on the day of. Try to see if there are other bakeries in town that you probably haven't heard of! Hope you can find one because this one seems sketchy despite that they are highly recommended..

I decided not to go with them. I looked a little deeper and found they had pretty bad reviews lately. Mostly about bad customer service.

Ahhhh!! Good thing you looked further into it! Have you tried asking family and friends for any recommendations in the area, or that may possibly know someone who makes wedding cakes?
