Wedding canceled :( Finding someone to sublet?

Emily, on August 19, 2021 at 2:16 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
Hey everyone,

Due to some extintenuating and unfortunate circumstances my fiance and I have to cancel our wedding. We are really just trying to postpone it until next year. Our venue was beautiful and on the water and we loved it. We just wanted to push the date and were hoping they would use the deposit as a fee for changing it and allow us to schedule it later. With some confusion and tricky wording in their e-mails with my father ( who was paying for the venue), what my father thought was just a deposit to hold the date, was taken as a first payment. Basically we are stuck in this situation and we have to pay the full price for the venue on our original wedding date, October 9th. As you can imagine it is very hard to pay for a venue that we arent using and on top of it have to pay for a venue for our actual wedding this coming year. My mother was told that in these situations some people are able to sublet it to another couple for a cheaper price. We don't have much time so I have little hope that we could find someone in need for this date but if we were to sublet it, does anyone know where to post it? Is there anyway to get out of paying the full price? There was a death in the family. We can't have the wedding this soon while we are grieving and after the the costs of the funeral and such we just can't afford it all right now. Any advice would be much appreciated.

So sorry for your loss and that the venue is being strange. Maybe post it to wedding planning groups in your area on Facebook?

Sorry for your loss. I would definitely try all social media platforms. You may not have luck since it is so close, but hopefully you will!

If you have to pay for it regardless though, could you just elope there? Or do they have minimums that need to be made?

I'm so sorry for your loss and that you have to deal with this. I can't believe the venue won't work with you given the circumstances. I don't really have any advice other than maybe reach out to your other vendors to see if they know anyone? Just get the word out any way you can. Good luck.

I would post in social media groups for your area, but I would also reach out to wedding planners in your area as well. Let them know the situation and that youre willing to sell at a discount to any couples they might be working with that want it

Very sorry to hear about the death in your family.

Could you check with the venue to see if you could push it back into December of this year? They might be willing to do so, since it's the same revenue quarter. A lot of venues are hurting financially due to the pandemic.

That's nice of you all. Check the local news papers and see if they could be some help to spread the news. Unfortunately it's also sad to hear that you can't ask people on Wedding Wire if someone would be interested in that spot. Also Google where you can advertise for free. I wish you all the best for your future marriage.
