Wedding Card Box

Cayla, on June 9, 2011 at 10:17 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

Any ideas of what i can make a wedding card box out of. I want it to be nice yet inexpensive since we would just be tossing it after the wedding anyway. Any ideas ladies? Or even if you have seen some inexpensive card boxes online please let me know.

How inexpensive do you want? The one in my profile picture cost about $15...but could have been made even cheaper. I used a 50% off coupon to purchase the round band boxes from JoAnns (ending cost $10) I used 3 of the 5 boxes. I covered the boxes w/scrapbook paper (have on hand all the time, lol!) and a roll of ribbon ($1.99 - could have used another coupon for this), cut flowers out of scrapbook paper, had beads on hand...If you would consider a square "cake", you could use shoe boxes, free boxes from grocery store, etc. You could cover these with wrapping paper or fabric...ideas are limitless! Good luck :-)

I used a paper mache box - covered it with my choice of wrapping paper, and decorated it with ribbon and a card label. It probably cost around $15 because I got the fancy wrapping paper.

I haven't taken a completed picture, but it was almost done in this picture.

Shoe box. Cut a card sized slot in the lid, then buy some wrapping paper in your wedding colors and wrap the shoe box so that the lid still comes off like normal (wrap the bottom separate from the lid, my mom does this to reuse boxes for xmas and birthdays).

Then, use a ribbon in a contrasting wedding color to secure the lid of the box so no-one can remove it during the wedding... maybe also use a bit of glue to keep the ribbon in place just in case.

After the wedding, cut the ribbon, get out the cards, and toss the box! Nice and easy and you'll have extra wrapping paper for the next birthday that comes along.

http://www.orientaltrading.com/white-birdcage-card-holder-a2-3_3801-12-1.fltr?Ntt=card box -Ok on second thought I think I like this one even better I may order this one myself and add tulle and ribbon. Dont forget to add yourself to their mailing list they give tons of incentives. I received 2 gift cards and one certificate. And you earn points for each purchase which adds up to an addl giftcard/certificate

We used an appothocary jar. We added some of the scrap fabric, that was used to make my wedding outfit, into the bottom of the jar and it had plenty of room for the cards in it. It will also be able to be used as a decoration now that it's original use is over, unlike a card box that would most likely be thrown away. If you did this idea, you could go get a yard of fabric in the color of your choice and bunch it in the bottom.

We're making this one out of picture frames. I got my 11 x 13 matted to 10x12 frames from Walmart for $4 each. The rest of the supplies are relatively cheap from a hardware store. The best thing is, after the wedding, you can disassemble it and use the picture frames, so really the only "wasted" cost is the hardware.

I've attached what i'm doing for my card box. the cake pictures is what my card box is going to look like except it's going to be painted brown and ivory ribbon. Yes, i'm painting. I bought metallic oops paint @ Home Depot in a brown and then i'm going to put ribbon around it and top it w a HUGE fake looking ring.

I bought a wicker basket with lid at a yard sale this weekend for $5! Its currently ivory with icy blue handles, I may just leave it those colors since our colors are ivory and navy. All I really need to do to it is cut a slit in the top! Be creative!
