Wedding Ceremony and Reception different days

Ayana, on October 11, 2020 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I want to get some outside advice of a wedding idea thats been kid of bouncing around in my head. But Next year I am having a destination wedding and I want to get married sunset on a beach with only close friends and family about 40 guest. A small family dinner and next day have a day long reception. The reception wouldn't require second outfits as it is a day resort where we are able to have unlimited food, drink, relaxation, and swim with tropical fish and dolphins. While i love the sound of this idea in my head. Does this sound a little to out of the box for a wedding ????. Should I just try to smash everything all into one day or does anyone think this may actually work.

Since it is a destination wedding, I am assuming all your guests will be staying at the resort and everyone will already be there anyway the day after the wedding... In which case, I think this sounds super fun!!

So it sounds like a reception dinner after the wedding and then an after party the next day. I think it works solely because it’s a destination wedding and guests are already there and ready for activities for the weekend.

For the reception, do you plan on inviting more guests than the ceremony? If that's the case, I think a lot of your guests might be upset by this because you not only will they have not gotten to see you get married, but because it is a destination wedding they have likely traveled a far distance and spent a lot of money. If you want to have the reception a different day, I think that's fine, but I would invite everyone to both the ceremony and reception.

As long as you're inviting all of your wedding guests to both days, this could totally work!

I also like Sexypoodle's suggestion of framing it as a formal evening wedding followed by an all day casual after-party!
