Wedding Ceremony Location

I'm super frugal and do not want to pay for an actual venue. I'm looking at exchanging vows in a park. My mom and her friends have suggested that I choose a free or very affirdable place that has some shelter in case of rain and have suggested the war memorial. What do you all think?

No because it's less than 20 people

Okay cool. Including my FH and I, it will only be 5 people and I'm freaking out about upcoming mandates. Such as everyone must wear a mask even outdoors and spread out.

I think it’s a really pretty location! And, for what it’s worth, a war Memorial does not celebrate war, it serves as a remembrance for the lives lost during war. That being said, if you feel what the memorial stands for would overshadow your feelings about your ceremony, then I would keep looking for another location.

Thanks. Plus this city has very strict COVID mandates and may require us to show proof of negative test results if we marry somewhere that requires a permit. Found this out after posting this thread

I think it's beautiful. That being said, I would have the same concern with the meaning and would worry it might offend someone else to celebrate marriage at a place that memorializes lives lost in war. I don't think it suggests you're pro-war, just worried someone might consider it disrespectful. But honestly if it's 5 people that probably doesn't matter. You should choose a place you like though. I am also doing a park, and I did need a permit to reserve it and to pay a small amount.

Without knowing anything about the venue, I would say it's a beautiful park.

The only place you will find for free is your backyard. The local parks dept will be the next least expensive and most have a wide variety of options.

Thank you. There qre other parks in the city that are free if the persons count is less than 10. Ours is only 6 including photographer.

That is very pretty! I would provide chairs for people to sit but be prepared: It IS a public space, some wanderers may wander in on your wedding! I say go for it!

We were married in an arboretum, which you pay to get into, member or not. (Guests did not have to pay) and I had that same concern: Suppose two strangers whpo are socially odd show up and have a seat? It did not happen - yay! (I was more concerned with my ex husband showing up, looking all forlorn and......yeah. He did not show either, but my kids were under strict orders NOT to tell him the place, lol!!!

    Good luck!

Absolutely yes, a park is a beautiful and very affordable option. Just make sure to check if you need a special license/permit to use the space (usually very cheap). I'm doing mine at a park as well.
