I think that’s fine but ideally if you could host anything at all after to thank people for coming that would be really nice! Even if it’s just quick cake and punch.

Be prepared for many upset guests who might take it as far as not interacting with you afterwards because you're asking them to spend money, travel, etc and not get a thank you in return, which is what the reception is. If you don't want a reception, don't invite guests.

People marry in the courthouse all the time. If that fits you better than go for it.

I agree with Melle - I think a cake and punch mini reception afterwards would be a good idea, even if it only lasted an hour. If you do decide to go this route, I would recommend picking a time that is not around a meal time.

No, this is very rude. The reception is not for you. It's for your guests and not having one is incredibly rude. If you don't want a reception, then don't invite any guests.

Why would he lie about being in a relationship with someone else? Why would he lie that he's been married before? I'm very confused.
