Wedding Ceremony Times

Lindsey, on January 19, 2021 at 8:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

So I am getting married on April 10, 2021 outside. We are having both the ceremony and reception at the same venue. I want to make sure that we have time for the ceremony and a couple of pictures with good lighting. We are taking the majority of our pictures including a first look before the ceremony. What time is everyone planning their ceremony for? I do not want to do it too early or too late. I have been meaning to order my invitations but cannot decide on a time.

I think a 5pm ceremony is pretty standard.

We are getting married on April 1st which is a Thurs. For that reason, we are starting at 6pm since most people will be working that day.

We’re getting married on 4/3/21 at 4pm. We talked with my photographer before we set a time because we wanted to have the good lighting as well. I’d start with your photographer.

Hi Lindsey, we wanted to do sunset photos so if that is part of your plan, mark what time sunset is for a few minutes of photos. Agree with previous posts, check with your photographer.
We did not do a first look, so it maybe different, but we did 4pm ceremony, 5pm was cocktail hour (we took photos during cocktail hour) and dinner served at 6:30pm. Reception ended at 10pm. Ceremony and reception all at same location. Hope this helps ❤️🥰

I agree with Michelle! I would first talk with your photographer to get their input, and then based on that info, come up with a start time.

I really appreciate this thread; and great advice from Michelle to check with the photographer! We have been trying to decide between a 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm ceremony. We want good lighting for pictures, but also want enough darkness for a sparkler sendoff. Our date is September 18th.

We are getting married outside & same venue for ceremony and reception. We are thinking 3:30/4ish for the cermony, cocktail/apps 5-6 (while we do pictures), then reception 6-10:30/11. Ask you venue too! I think ours said the most common time is around 3 in September because of the sun position and the latest being 5:00pm.
