Wedding Day Hair: half up or full up-do?

Maryanne, on November 5, 2019 at 3:25 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9

I have my hair and makeup trial coming up in about a month and I am torn with what do do with my hair. I've worn a full up-do in every wedding I have been a bridesmaid in, but for my wedding day I am not so sure. Our wedding is 3/28/2020 so humidity may be a low factor and my hair generally holds curl well. My issue is that, I feel like when brides wear their hair down it looks a mess by the end of the night, however, on the other hand I never wear my hair up in my every day life. I will be wearing a two tiered veil (cathedral and elbow) so that will need to be held. Any help and/or pictures are welcome. Thank you!

I am doing a full updo - mostly because I don't want hair on my neck while I dance and get warm. I'm sure if you get your hair professionally done, they will be able to make the veil secure! However, do whatever you are most comfortable with! Also, what is your dress like? If the back has pretty details, I would maybe put it all up so that is easily seen. Good luck!

I never wear my hair up and feel like an updo wouldn't do by chubby cheeks any favors, so I'm definitely opting for the half up half down! If you're not sold on the half up half down, maybe you could do a low/messy updo Smiley smile

I originally wanted to wear a half up/half down style but then I saw how wearing all my hair up really enhanced and showed off my lace neckline so that's what I did. If you have a really pretty neckline to show off then I suggest wearing your hair up.

I completely agree with you what you said about down dos look messy by the end of the night. My FH wants me to wear my hair down but I'm worried it won't hold and will look like a sloppy disaster by the end of the night. These are the 2 looks I'm debating between right now, the one with the hair down the back I would need extensions for the updo my hair person thinks I could do without. And yes my FH really likes the one with the hair going down lol.

Amber, you and I think alike! I'm terrified that my face will look too round/chubby in pictures if my hair is all up! So many decisions.

The thing I’ve heard from my married friends is “don’t do something uncharacteristic with your hair” because you won’t feel like yourself or feel as comfortable.

I am wearing my hair half down. Your hair only needs to look "perfect" for the pictures and the ceremony. It should be able to hold nicely though dinner as well. Honestly, I don't care if it gets a little messy after dancing. My photographer is only staying like an hour into the dancing, so it's not a big deal to me.

I went with down because I look better with it half up half down as opposed to all up. But I did consider doing both. If you use bun makers it's really easy to go from up to down or vice versa

I almost never wear my hair up either (unless messy buns and ponytails at work count). Honestly, who EVER wears their hair in a bridal updo on a regular basis?

When we did our engagement shoot in mid October at our venue in the morning, my curled hair looked like crap in less than an hour, so that solidified that my hair will be UP, also my low back dress will be showing better that way.
