Wedding day timeline

Vicky, on September 8, 2021 at 3:07 PM Posted in Planning 1 8

I need some help, I am extremely overwhelmed at this point, my wedding is October 2nd. I've never been to a real wedding so I don't have a clue of what to plan at what times. When do you do the cake cutting and the garter toss and the bouquet toss 1st dance father daughter, mother and son. dollar dance and all of that fun stuff.

My Ceremony starts at 3pm- no 1st look.

we have dinner from 5pm-7pm

I feel like 5-7 is a long time for dinner. But you could do the parent dances after dinner, then have the speech/toasts. Followed by the bouquet toss & dollar dance. Followed by cake cutting. There are many templated that are online, I would suggest even googling "wedding day timelines" and see if you can find one that you like

We did cake cutting, father/daughter dance, son/mother dance. That way guests can be served cake while watching dances. Typically the father/daughter dance is first immediately followed by the son/mother dance. Take a break of 30 minutes or so to grab a drink, mingle. Then I would do dollar dance at 8:45, followed by bouquet toss and with garder toss. If you have a DJ, they can help you with the exact time and make announcements accordingly. Good luck ❤️

I would speak to your venue about what they suggest - ours had set times for when each course was to be set out based on the time our reception started, which meant dances, entrances, speeches etc had to be organised between courses.

Generally the timeline would be something like -

5 pm - bride and groom announced

    5.15 - first course served

6.0 - speeches (parents of the bride and groom)

    6.15 - main course served

6.5 - cutting of the cake

7.0 - speeches (bride and groom together)

    7.10 - dessert

7.35 - bride and groom first dance

Of course, you'd need to factor in how many speeches you are having, how many dances you are having, and when you want to do things that we aren't including - garter or bouquet toss, father-daughter or mother-son dances, etc.

Your vendors should help you with your timeline. My dj has lots of suggestions for me. He says to bunch the activities together and get everything done before open dancing.
