Wedding Day Timeline

Lauren, on October 27, 2019 at 6:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
I am trying to figure out our wedding day timeline and it is stressing me out! We have our two photographers for 10 hours that day. Since our reception ends at 1030pm, our photographers would start at 1230pm. I have no idea what time we should all begin to get ready, but I was hoping to have my photographer capture some of the getting ready pictures. My fiancé and I want to do a first look, but not sure what time that should happen either. Our ceremony is currently scheduled for 230-3pm (could be moved later if needed) and our cocktail hour begins at 5pm. Our ceremony is about 30 mins from our reception location. My fiancé and I want to attend our cocktail hour because we have a lot of guests coming from out of town that we want to mingle with. Any advice on a wedding day timeline?

This is what I have for now:

1230-1: Bride and groom all ready photos (in separate rooms)

1-145: First look and bridal party photos at hotel

145-215: Travel to church

215: Bridal party arrives at church

230-3: Ceremony

3-330: Pictures at the church with bridal party and family

330-430: Pictures at a location near our ceremony

430-5: Travel to reception

5-6: Cocktail hour

6-730: Toasts and seated dinner

730-1030: Dancing and sparkler exit

Based on the fact that your photographer will be there for much of the day, I think they'll be able to capture you getting ready. If you're getting your hair/makeup done somewhere other than where you're getting dressed, you can have your bridal party take photos of each other. Or you can kind of pose for pictures when the photographer shows up. I think your timeline will work well! If your photographer needs to leave before the end of your reception, you can always do your sparkler exit for photos and go back into the reception.

Hey Lauren! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

The timeline you have made is a great basis to start building your concrete timeline around. Are you having a hair and makeup artist come to you for getting ready? If so, discuss with them how long they anticipate everything to take. You should also discuss with your photographer how 'ready' you should be for your getting ready photos, they will definitely have some input on that if they have experience shooting weddings.

I would also recommend discussing with your photographer how long they think the family and wedding party photos will take after the ceremony, photos that involve organizing a large group of people might surprise you with how long they take to capture!!

If you're doing a first look, you will be able to do most of your posed photos before the ceremony. This includes family. See if you can move your ceremony start time up a little later to avoid a gap before cocktail hour.
