Hey everyone! My fiance and I are trying to decide if we should do a dinner or really nice finger foods & dessert. We have a limited budget and want to make it stretch out as far as we can. Both our parents were married in the 80s; their ceremonies were held at 6p.m. followed by a reception. The reception was only finger food and desserts. Both are parents were both surprised that a full dinner is served now-a-days. If anyone has done finger food instead of dinner, I would appreciate to hear how it went! Thank you! ~Stephanie

I've just been looking at this option. Our venue has a lot of food options. We were looking at their buffet menus for sit down dinner but I really am not keen on any of their entrees for those, and the overall selection with the buffets seems really limited. Whereas if we go with heavier apps, we could give a really good variety of options for a variety of dietary preferences, PLUS be able to afford to pay for at least part of the alcohol for our party which would be nice.

I'm talking 8 different heavier apps: 2 seafood, 2 meat, 2 veg, 2 other - Crab Cakes, Salmon Crostini, Chicken Tenders, Meatballs, Spankopita Triangles, Stuffed Mushrooms, Soft Pretzels w/ Fondue, and Hummus w/ veggies. We will probably end up around 86 people (including us, photog, DOC & DJ) & I figured on planning for 90 to make sure there is plenty for everyone, considering not everyone will eat every appetizer.

It's about a 1K difference in price, which doesn't seem like much, but we're paying for this ourselves and that 1K DOES make a difference.

This seems to be an old post, but if you're not serving dinner that's fine. Just don't host at a usual dinner time. You wouldn't invite people over to your house at 6 pm and not serve dinner right?
