Wedding dress alterations

Katie, on December 4, 2023 at 4:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I'm getting worried! I've messaged a few local people around me and they said they recommend 8-10 weeks for alterations. I'm blown away! My wedding dress doesn't come in until February and my wedding is March 23 2024

I don't know what to do, I'm starting to panic

Yeah, that’s a pretty standard time table. Your bridal shop really should’ve talked to you about it. How extensive of alterations do you need? Mine barely took a week, but I was just hemming the length and adjusting the straps. If you don’t need a lot of alterations, it can be done more quickly.

I would see if the alterations person you want to use would schedule you a few appointments now so that you know you are in the schedule.

    That's a pretty standard time from 2 - 3 months for alterations.

I would ask the seamstresses if they can accommodate your shorter timeframe and get on their schedule now.

~sigh~ You are not alone in assuming alterations can be done closer to the wedding. I hear it a LOT! As others have said, I would definitely talk to a seamstress you have vetted and are comfortable with and talk to them about your anticipated alteration needs, and try to get on their calendar ASAP. Don't be surprised if you are charged a 'rush' fee. Even if it is "just a hem", 8 yards of material is a LOT of work to hem correctly. (trust me, I know this first hand)
