Wedding dress for short girl

Daniel & Alondra, on January 8, 2017 at 11:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Okay, so I'm 4'10 and I haven't started looking at dresses but it freaks me out bc of my size. Any recommendations on styles or something? That's me in the pic. Thaaanks! Smiley smile

I don't have a recommendation as far as styles go, so hopefully someone else can help you better with that part!

However, I know they have petite options for many dresses to make it more proportionate for a shorter body type so that should help out no matter what style you get Smiley smile

Try everything. I see a lot of people tell shorter brides to avoid ballgowns. I'm 4'11" and I got a ballgown and love how it looks on me.

Echoing try everything. Anything can be altered. I'm 5 foot and they probably took 6 inches off my dress in alterations. Also try tea length dresses if your interested.

I'm 5'1 ish and this dress fit my body proportions great. By that I mean the waist fell where my waist is, the top I need to have altered and of course the bottom too. Really though you should be able to go into a shop and try different styles on til you find one you like. They also should have petite dresses. ETA: this isn't me in the picture it's from online, I deleted pics of me in it so FH didn't accidently see them.

I agree with MNA! I'm 5'1'' and loved my ball gown. Here's a picture of it! I did wear a 3 inch heel.

Several designers offer dresses in petite sizes.

And, as someone else mentioned, don't be afraid to try different silhouettes.

I'm only 5 ft tall with a short torso, so I ordered a petite size which is 3 inches shorter than regular size and shortened bodice.

Since a lot of designers make the dresses to order anyway, they may actually just be able to order your dress the correct length. I'm wearing a tulle ball gown and they actually took my height measurements when I purchased it so it would just be made the correct length to begin with. Also, Look for dresses with a shorter waist if you go the ballgown route. If you plan to wear heels at the wedding, maybe bring heels dress shopping as well?

I'm 4'11 and I got a ballgown myself.. I tried on mermaid style but felt like I was too short for the way they looked on me personally. I just went in looking at dresses not anything specific to my height. My dress is big and has a long train.

Try everything and see what you like best. Don't be afraid to ask the consultant for suggestions too- they do this everyday all day. Are you planning to wear heels? I'm 5'7 so i'm wearing flats.

Traditionally I've seen recommendations for shorter brides be empire waist, a line, sheaths, and mermaids. However, I agree with try on everything. Think of your personal style and what you have felt most comfortable in. Have you worn ballgowns, a line, or mermaid styles dresses in the past? Which do you gravitate towards more? Be open for sure. I wore two inch heels knowing I'll be wearing 4 inch heels on the big day, but just to give me a better idea of what I would like.

I am short as well and every time I put on any dress that was puffy (like ballgown) it made me look even shorter and fat. I went with something fitted. It may have been just me but thought I would say something.

I'm 5'2 and I am scared of the dress not being proportionate. Not just the length being too long, but the whole thing being out of whack. I also am concerned about looking wider than I am. I might try some fitted dresses, possibly mermaid style, to accentuate my curves and hopefully elongate my body. But who knows, I haven't looked at anything yet.

I am 5'3 and I am facing this same issue with gown hunting, but I agree with most of the ladies here. . . Just try everything, and don't stress about it! This is supposed to be a fun experience for you and your bridal party, along with getting the dress of your dreams. Make the most of it! If you want to have a fairytale, princess gown, go for it! Whatever makes you feel like a queen, you should definitely get.
