Wedding dress problem with the chest

Stephanie, on July 16, 2015 at 3:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

Story of my whole life. I've got big hips but a teeny tiny bust. Nonexistent, even. Anyway, I went to my first and second fitting (one more in September) and the seamstress said she can't take the chest in anymore without butchering the boning/lace work. The rest of the dress fits like a glove, just the cups in particular are swimming on me.

Any advice on what I should wear/if I should do anything else alteration-wise to it?

Get a nice push up bra with really good padding to fill it out. Surely you can find one that is strapless? That might help!

Look at the back of the dress though, I dont think a strapless bra will clear the backline.

Years ago I had a breast reduction and he made me too small. So now I wear a push up padded bra and I sometimes add silicone inserts into the bra. I got new ones recently from Walmart

VS makes really good stick on cups that are backless. I have a coworker that swears by them. She has a tiny chest and prefers these to strapless b/c strapless just slide down her middle.

I think we might have the same body type Smiley smile

Can you find a strapless push up bra? Or one of those stick on things?

Heyyyyyy oh I know how you feel. My dress was like gaping off of my at the chest. Here's what I did: had my seamstress sew in C-cups (I'm a smallish b-cup) to my dress. When I tried it on, they still looked a little... baggy. She said she could sew padded A-cups on top of the C-cups but she wasn't sure how it would turn out. She had done it in the past but for girls much smaller than me. So I went out and bought a stick-on push-up bra from Victoria's Secret in my bra size. The combination was perfect and I felt better having something actually stuck to me as opposed to just sewn into the dress. There was a big of gapage but not nearly as much as it would have been otherwise.

So. You can either (1) sew in two sets of cups to your dress or (2) sew in one cup and wear stick on boobs or (3) just wear stick on boobs if that works for you.

What the hey is a chicken cutlet? I had a reduction as well, after spending so many years of trying to stuff it all into dresses, I've yet to give much of a thought of what you do for push up affects.

@Andrea- do the silicone inserts stay in when you dance/sweat? I don't want one to slip out and take someone's eye out!

The seamstress said that if she were to do any more work to the cups, she would have to break the pattern in the lace and, where it's not like on the train in a flowy part of the dress, it would be noticeable. Frustrated/surprised me, too!

They do for the most part but for the wedding I'm having a lining sewn over them and then having them sewn into my bra. Just like you said I don't want to take out anyone's eye or have a wardrobe malfunction

@Lori and @Corrine, so glad someone feels my pain! My mother keeps assuring me that my chest will come in when I have children. Soooooo something to look forward to? Thanks, Ma.

@Lori- how did the stick on push up work for you in terms of both comfort and dancing? Was it sliding all over the place? Did you feel secure in there?
