Wedding dress regret

Jo Jones, on July 16, 2020 at 8:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Hey everyone I’m new here.
I was suppose to be getting married this month however due to the current situation with Covid have postponed till next year. I tried my dress on yesterday and have gained a few lockdown pounds and just wasn’t feeling it.
We originally booked a last minute wedding, so I bought a very reasonable off the rail dress and was fine with that at the time, I never had that ‘this is my dress’ feel but I figured it’s cause I’m a Tom boy at heart. It was very exciting being being last minute but now with a year to go I feel maybe I should have gone down the proper dress hunt. I feel there’s going to be added extra expectation with all this time and I feel slightly stressed, silly I know as a dress is hardly a third world problem. I feel really uncomfortable in the dress, I feel It looks to tight and the seam on my waist doesn’t quite look right and the straps I just don’t know what to do, here they are pinned in the first photo, not sure if I should leave them thick? Also aware it needs steaming, it’s been in a box for months.Wedding dress regret 1Wedding dress regret 2Wedding dress regret 3

Thanks Jo

I think that your dress is really pretty! Have you been looking around at other wedding dresses? I was always told not to look around after I buy my dress so I wouldn't be in this situation. If your wedding is next year, you always could lose the weight that you gained and get back in the dress. Check with the store you bought your dress from to see if they have an exchange policy!

Personally I think that dress looks killer on your body. Very flattering. But, if YOU don't feel your best, then I would get another one and sell this one on Stillwhite.

I personally think that dress is absolutely stunning on you. I wouldn’t ever think you just picked that last minute. However, if you don’t feel comfortable in it anymore, and you can afford to look for another dress, maybe go try some others on. You might even go back to this dress after you see some others.

Wow, this dress is super pretty on you!! I especially love the back and the train! Maybe check with a seamstress to see if they can alter it to make it fit how you would like it to fit? Otherwise, if you're still not comfortable, you can always try to sell this one and buy a new one. I agree with a previous comment - try on a few other dresses before selling this one, you might (or might not) come back to it.

Aw thank you all so much for your kind comments! I can’t tell you how much better I feel. I have spent hours looking online at other dresses. In my mind I was set on a boho vintage style dress and ended up leaving with this dress so I’ve definitely been overthinking it. I’m sure when it’s steamed and accessorised it’ll be fine.
Thanks again for all the reassuring responses xxxx

The dress looks great! All the “issues” you described are nothing that I see. However, I can see how postponing possibly makes you want another dress, since there’s time. But, it doesn’t seem necessary with your dress.

Thank you and yes definitely, I think a last minute wedding might stress most yet for me it was less pressure for everything to be perfect, it was an excuse I was using and now nervous of everyone’s expectations. I just don’t know a off the peg dress is going to cut it, hopefully when I lose the pounds I’ve gained it won’t look so tight and all will be fine. Fingers crossed anyways🤞 x

The dress looks stunning on you ! If you feel the straps a little loose I would just have them cut down but they look good , it looks like a perfect fit

I think it looks great on you, but you gotta love it! I’m not sure I can give the advice of “don’t look at other dresses” because the minute we decided to postpone that’s exactly what I did and I found another dress that I really love. Granted we’re eloping this year so I’ll still wear the original dress for that.

Try it on again, see if it gives you that feeling of whether you love it. If it doesn’t look at try on other dresses if you have time and can afford it. Smiley smile

IT LOOKS SO GOOD ON YOU!! Fits like a glove. I think keep it and you have time to workout a little bit to feel better.

I love everything about your dress! The keyhole back adds sexiness, while the train adds elegance and the front is just gorgeous. Many of us have gained the COVID 10 (or 15 or 20 lol), so of course you won't fit your dress as well. That would bring anyone down. I no longer fit my dress! But I laughed it off and am working out every single day to make things right. Maybe start doing some workouts here and there to boost your mental health, and in no time, you'll be able to fit the dress better, which will impact how you view yourself in it. I honestly hated my dress up until 2 months ago, and have decided to accept it. I hope you reach that point, as well. Smiley winking You look amazing!

Aw thank you, such lovely comments! I’m so glad you have decided to accept your dress. Yes laughing it off is definitely the correct attitude. Also you’re right once I’ve shed a few pounds I’m sure it’ll feel more comfortable, I have plenty of time so there’s no excuses.
    Thanks so much x
