Wedding Dress Shopping Frustrations?

Did anything make you tear your veil out about wedding dress shopping? Prices? Sizes? An insulting sales rep? White/ivory samples only? It took 8-10 stores to find The One and I found the whole thing more frustrating than fun.

1) None of the bridal shops carried any of the dresses I found online or in magazines

2) Sleeves weren't in when I was was shopping. Felt like few options for me

3) OMG, the price tag. I had a $1K+ dress budget but considering I've never owned a dress that was even $500 I was shocked most dresses didn't excite me yet were going to cost so much money. I mean, shouldn't every dress that cost $1K+ look amazing???? Smiley winking

What drove you crazy?

OMG. So happy it worked out for you! Beauuuuuuuuuuutiful.

By trying on a HP (way over my budget but I was desperate to find a dress I liked) that gave me the idea to try on separates! Took more bridal shops but finally got a Martina Liana bodysuit + Morilee skirt to get me close to my vision:

lol. The sales consultant who tried to sell you on putting down a $200 deposit for a future dress? Uh, no.

I HATED dress shopping. The only good experience I had was when I bought my dress, and I bought it second hand, so I was alone and it was no stress, no pressure, and I took my time. The biggest problems I had were:

    1) all the samples were huge. I had to have them clipped so much I had to have them clipped the front to even get an idea of what the back would look like.
    2) all the dresses were SOOOO expensive. I had such a hard time accepting how much this would cost and then account for alterations too because nothing fit me.
    3) I felt rushed to make a decision and scoffed at or told I was wrong when I disliked something about a dress.
    4) I brought my family (mother, brother, and cousin) to my first 2 attempts and they made the experience a nightmare for me. They pressured me to make a decision which ultimately led to me buying a dress just to shut them out, which I later regretted and although I was able to get out of it, I'm out a $250 deposit.

Overall, buying a dress second hand from a local woman was the right choice for me. It was relaxed, I found the perfect dress in my size with a corset back so it needs minimal alterations, and it came with a matching veil.

My dress shopping experience was very fun. I had people I loved with me and that alone made it amazing. I'm a very simple person but i do like shimmer and rhinestones. I also am a ball gown chic so anything with a little bit of rhinestone and Cinderella look.. I LOVED IT.

The first time I went To David’s I had a sales rep who couldn’t care less. I had no trouble finding a dress with sleeves which is what I wanted for my decemeber wedding. I didn’t buy that day because of her. I wemy back and asked for someone different.

I just started my wedding dress shopping (as in today) and I understand the frustration finding a dress. I'm pretty small especially in the bust area and mostly everything I tried on is pretty big in that area. I had a dress that i couldn't pull up over my hips (a bit curvy) but the bust area was huge just looking at it. I'm still looking and will check out as many as I can find but I think maybe theres a limit on how many I can try on in a day and then maybe a break job between to clear my head. Good luck with dress shopping.

I go to my first dress appointment on Thursday. Finding a bridal shop that has dresses under $1000 has been so frustrating. I'm only going to be in it for 4hrs tops (eloping) so I'm not looking to spend more. I'm manly going to see what shape looks good on me than order a dress online.

I'm going to DB on Thursday and terrified this will happen to me. I know myself and I won't be kind. No wonder David's filed bankruptcy protection. So many reviews share the same service received.

Beautiful dress!! You are 100% correct about the sales rep! I have read some horrifying stories related to David's Bridal. So I was hesitant to go there. But there aren't a lot of shops in my area so I decided to go to DB first, and if the experience wasn't good, I could look farther out or online for a dress. As it happened, the DB consultants were all so kind, so accommodating, and seemed to love their jobs. It was the best shopping experience of my life! They had me feeling beautiful before I even tried anything on! They listened to my preferences and didn't bring me anything to try on that was over my strict $800 budget. They were awesome!
So I feel that 100% the differences in experiences is due to the sales people. Also good management is key. Hats off to the consultants and staff of David's Bridal of Pinole, CA!

This is absolutely the wrong area of retail to be in if you don't love what you do.

As a plus size bride, David's Bridal was so disappointing. We went in with a $500 budget and the sample sizes didnt fit me well at all. I never really got the feeling with any of them though there were 2 dresses that I was okay with. The one I saw on their site was only available on the east coast and I was soooooo bummed about that.
But I went to the next appointment at a plus size boutique and told them we had a small budget and she said the only thing under $500 were tea length. But we said okay, let's up it to 1200ish. My dress was 1400 with tax and sale price coming down to 1300. My mom asked if I should make another appointment at DB to see if there was something I had missed because of the lower price but i got that feeling with my dress so i said nope! Not doing that again!

Yay for finding one and at a much better price! Where did you find it? I love a corset back for the ease of last minute weight changes (up or down), and keeping everything snug on the day.

I really hated how at David’s bridal I felt so rushed because you only have an hour, my stylist was beyond helpful which was great but I felt so rushed and pressured to say yes to the dress that I was just like ummm okay and I rang the bell lol 😂.
I ended up finding my dress at a local boutique and loooooved the atmosphere I ended up staying a little past closing time and the ladies were soooo nice and I really did say yes to my dress that time 😁🥳

I DID NOT GO TO DAVID'S BRIDAL, and reading these posts makes me feel glad that I didn't. I went to VOWS in Massachusetts first and then The Curvy Bride in New Jersey a month later, where I found my dress. I brought my cousin, sister, sister in law, my mother, future MIL and my aunt with me and ALL SIX OF THEM loved my dress!

I'm one of those odd brides where I had one appointment and my dress was the third I tried on. I still love it. My appointment started at 10:00am and by 10:45am I said RING IT UP! But I've always been pretty decisive with clothes.

My theory is there's hundreds of thousands of wedding dresses. Maybe there's something better, maybe there isn't. If you have a moment then don't look back. I giggled uncontrollably like the Joker and teared up so I pretty much knew lol
