Wedding Dress Train Removal

FroggieGirl, on March 17, 2016 at 7:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

My dress has a huge train that I really want taken off. Has anyone removed the train from their dress? My dress has tons and tons of vertical ruffles and is going to cost "an arm and a leg" to have it removed properly. My choices are to keep it on, have it removed and each ruffles stitched or have it removed and leave the ruffles un-done. I am really confused on what to do! UGH! And the dress is already over my budget...alterations will be an additional $250 bucks...

I have a question, why did you go over budget for a dress you have to change? I don't think I would have done that.

Alterations including the train removal are $250?

Can you just have it bustled and wear it that way the whole time? Depending on the style of bustle, it'll probably be at least a little cheaper.

I need to see a picture because I'm not understanding why you brought a dress with a train then?

Having it bustled may be easier and cheaper instead of removing the train.

Agree with the bustle suggestions. Though if it's the dress style I'm thinking of, that might be difficult as well...

The dress was only $100 over what I had originally budgeted, so I thought not that big of a deal. And when I tried it on, I fell in love with it other than the train. I also had no idea that removing the train would become such an ordeal, since I have zero experience in this sort of thing. If I had known, I would never had even tried it, BUT I did and love EVERYTHING else about it. The saleslady was unsure of the cost and hassle of removing it. I was told that it is so very full that bustling it would make my rear end HUGE! And trust me, I don't need any help in that department! LOL! I am trying to get a picture uploaded as well. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has had an experience similar. And yes, the total for alterations will be $250- there are two underskirts to remove and 36 ruffles to finish...

Have you actually seen a mock bustle done with the dress? Maybe the bustle may not look as bad as they say it will be. Save yourself the stress of not knowing and have a seamstress show you bustle options. There are different kinds and maybe one would look better than another...

I had the train cut off my dress, the seamstress asked me like 5 times if I was sure and then cut it off while I had the dress on! lol, my mom had to look away. The skirt portion of my dress is fairly basic so it wasn't a big deal.

You may want to consider permanently bustling your dress if the cost to cut off the train properly is too expensive.

    As said, picture please.

I too, wanted the train removed. The seamstress suggested removing the satin fabric and leaving the lace. She made a jacket out of the fabric! The train was easily bustled. Ask your seamstress Smiley smile

It sounds like keeping it on and bustling it is not an option for you. Without seeing a picture of what undone ruffles would look like, its hard to give advice on that option. Part of me is picturing pieces of thread where the ruffles where cut off. Meaning not a clean finished look. My advice would be to pay for the alternations on the train. I think you'll be much happier with the finished product.

Pictures of the dress and ruffles...

I appreciate the suggestions and ideas! I've never had an actual wedding gown!
