Wedding dress worries!

Clarissa, on January 17, 2020 at 7:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I know this is really weird to start worrying about this now but this is my situation. I am wanting to lose a lot of weight this year and my wedding will be next year in May, what I'm wondering is when should I start shopping for a dress?

About 8-10 months prior should be good. Time for it to come in and alterations.

I would wait a little closer to your date, but not too close. They'll probably have you order a size bigger anyway, and the alterations will be easier to take in then out.

Start now. You’ll be inspired to start losing weight. Plus, a dress can take 6-9 months to arrive plus you want it to arrive at least 2 months before your wedding to start alterations. Not to worry, a dress can usually be taken in up to 2 sizes. 👍

I started weight watchers last January and lost 30 or so pounds by September when I bought my dress. My dress is in-I’ve lost 10 more. When I bought I got a dress that the waist could expend. I’m determined not to do that.

If you aren't determined to order a designer dress (those can take 4-8 months or more to arrive) you can push it back a little.

You definitely need at least 6 weeks for alterations, so you need to figure that in, but there are several fast(ish) options for getting the dress:
    1. Order online- Azazie takes about 6 weeks and Cocomelody is about 8 weeks.
    2. Shop sample sales or consignment stores- you would be able to take your dress home same day.
    3. Order a second hand dress from stillwhite.com or preownedweddingdresses.com- you just have to wait for shipping.

    A year out is recommended.
